How do you keep going?

I might have to try a Nintendo one. Reddit doesn't take too kindly to anyone that isn't already big and one of their favorites. I've only been slightly burned a bit, but it does happen. lol.

Hopefully that works out for you man. Yeah Reddit isn't full of nice people. I've had all kinds of racial slurs thrown at me along with a lot of people making fun of my Australian accent lol. It comes with the territory of being a creator though. You'll definitely get hatred but you gotta get that to get the good too! I really advise it man. Best of luck.

That's stupid. Reddit isn't too far off from being another 4Chan, which is what makes it so dangerous.

Personally on my channel it's about refining the craft. Like I could have quit over a year ago and sometimes I do wonder if I'm just flinging content into a bottomless pit but it doesn't bother me.

When I get 1 person who enjoys a video I've made I'm content, even if the cost is 40 hours of editing XD

In my case is because of the principle of momentum conservation, I guess. I will either reduce even more my upload schedule or just quit VGP next year and move on to something else, also because going back and forth from University kills all my will to do useful stuff when I'm home.

I got to say that after about half a year i'm starting to get a little unmotivated to do an episode of GrgakGames or anything for that matter.

It's not that I don't like doing it, if I didn't like it I wouldn't have made 26 episodes of just GrgakGames.

but a few reasons i'm just sort of out of it lately is

1. My laptop is old and can barely run my editing software (more my fault as I hate upgrading. Had this laptop now for about 9 years)

2. A lot of content uploaded every day on YouTube is utter garbage. Either it's let's plays or compilation videos that don't source the original creators.

3. YouTube creators are mostly scumbags who only talk to you so they can get their channels to grow

I'm not saying that all of these are always bad.

I've seen let's players even on here that have great channels and funny content but the majority is just disgusting. (Adding those generic intros, barely talking in the video, etc)

I have had people ask to collab with me without even knowing what I do. I don't hate collaborating, I actually did a small one a few weeks ago. BUT there are specific channels that are just horrible about this. (vloggers are the worst offenders, nobody even knows what I look like how would you vlog with me wtf)

Not to mention one person in particular a while ago messaged me over twitter asking to collab but around that time I couldn't really do much as I was sick so I had to decline.
and boy he god steemed, started calling me a commie and other things that I probably shouldn't talk about on here.

Maybe I just need a small break. I dunno.

How do you guys keep going? (No humble brags)

Hey man. First off, sorry if this comes across as confrontational. It's not intended to. My method for being productive, in all things, is to reduce resistance. Get rid of anything that bottlenecks your productivity and drains your willpower. Surround yourself in things that bring up your energy and your mood.

My suggestion would be as follows:

Step 1 - Chill out. Take a few deep breaths. There's a lot of rage in this post and that's not going to help you enjoy youtube. Yes, some people are self-interested. Yes, people will want to coast off your success and your talent, but that's fine. Consider it a compliment that they see you as valuable and, if you're not interested, politely decline. Getting angry, insulting other creators and talking about how hard everything is doesn't help anyone. Least of all you. Making videos is a hobby and if your hobbies are making you mad more than they are making you happy, something needs to change.

Step 2 - Sit back and take stock of why you do this in the first place. Do you want to have influence? Millions of followers? That fat google paycheck? Or do you just love making videos? These are all fine, by the way. It's just important to have something positive to focus on when you're feeling crappy.

Step 3 - Clear out your environment. Stop focusing on what everyone else is doing. Stop focusing on the stuff that makes you angry. People in your niche are uploading garbage? Great! Make good content and it will stand out more! If youtubers are annoying you, click on the wee dots beside their video and click "Don't show me content from this account" and you don't need to see them any more. Trust me, everything gets much easier when you cut out things that make you angry and surround yourself in things that make you happy.

Step 4 - Obviously this is entirely dependant on your monetary situation, but upgrade your pc. This comes back to step 3. Having an old slow computer is a definite negative influence. It is frustrating and makes everything harder. You want as little resistance as possible to your creating and this seems like some pretty serious resistance. You won't need to spend masses of cash to upgrade from a 9 year old computer and it will make a world of difference. Keep an eye out on gumtree/craigslist/ebay etc and see if you can pick something up second hand. After a hardrive format and reinstall, it'll be good as new for half the price.

I hope this is useful and doesn't come off as me having a go at you. Positivity is key. Do what you love and love what you do.

You can say whatever you want man lol it's fine.

I'm not angry though, it takes a lot more to get me to that point. The "anger" you see is probably just how I type honestly. Not meant to be rude just how I learned.

I was mostly in YouTube because I like making videos. The comments and things are nice and motivate me but when I get called a "commie" and that my gene pool should have died back in the war no matter who you are will get in your skin after a while.

That was probably a bigger reason I was getting sort of fed up with making videos. It's not the first time this happened either, I know you are supposed to take all the hate but when the majority of the hate are coming from other content creators really gets to me.

I dunno. Even now I blocked the people that said that stuff but it still doesn't change the fact that a big portion have done this.

Thanks for not coming off like "JUST BE YOURSELF LOVE YOURSELF LOVE YOUTUBE" and giving me some sound advice

Yeah man. Haters gonna hate, but that doesn't make it any easier. Just take comfort in the fact that, for every 1 asshat sending hatemail out to people, there's 10 people who want you to be happy and successful. This forum is testament to that. People are generally good. I promise.

I do enjoy your videos, I really like your humour, it's very original xD and screw phoenix games haha!

breaks can help, when editing I always play my favourite music, it keeps me in a good mood :]
