Why do new channels monetize?

for one, i haven't monetized my videos when i started out, even until now. I'm still small, but maybe when I get bigger I'll slowly start monetizing videos that gain a lot of traffic. but hey, we never know!

I think it's smart to get your viewers used to the ads right away so it won't be "you're selling out" or "what's with the ads" later on.
I've thought about that but generally if your supporters turn on you like that when the time comes, well... they weren't truly supporters to begin with.

true, the real supporters would be happy to keep watching your videos with ads on, thinking they're helping you out.

Yeah but you initially need to earn that support. I turn on ad block when I'm watching channels I'm not subbed to, unless the video is good I'll turn it off and reload the page to let the ad play.

this is a question I've been wondering... do the general public even know that ads on youtube depends on the channel and not youtube itself? I didn't know until recently and I am a pretty tech-savvy person that ads depended on the channel and not EVERY videos had ads.. I always knew that popular videos would have ads because of course youtube wants to put ads on it for money but I only knew recently that the person had to turn on ads for the ads to appear.. so maybe to the general public havings ads is normal? Just a guess based on myself!

I disagree. I support a lot of things and a lot of people but if they do something that's seriously against my values/tastes they can lose my support, however that doesn't mean I never supported them in the first place. I personally feel for some, why even bother with pretense, if you're going to flip on ads, flip them on and move on with creating great content. Why bring a on a dramatic shift later? Again, it's up to the individual creator, everyone has to do whats right for them.
