Swearing in videos.

Swearing bad for videos?

Maybe you could make a video addressing it & ask your fans for their opinions on it? It would be much better than us answering this question, but anyway swearing doesn't bother me at all, unless it seems unnatural & they are simply not funny.
 
I have personally made the choice to not swear in my videos. And though a comedic element can be added through swearing, I don't find it necessary. I did select that it was "bad" for your videos though because it does restrict your audience to a degree. And I feel like content creators who don't swear, have a better chance of gathering an engaged audience than one that does.

Just my personal view though!

My friend if I had any fans I would ask lol. I do have it on my about description that there is quite a bit of foul language.

Another question.. Who is your target demographic? & also is your channel 'laid back' or 'serious'? These would be 2 main factors as to wether swearing would or wouldn't be an issue.
 
I swear in my videos... I swear quite a lot. Especially in my dash-cam videos when people pull stupid stuff in front of me. I don't think it matters that much. Sure, I might scare those away that are against swearing, but then again this is my hobby.

Cause your friends don't swear
And if they don't swear
Well they're no friends of mine...

I don't know why safety dance popped into my mind with swear in it... but it just did...

I don't have a demographic lmao. Still to new with to few subscribers I guess. Really it's mostly laid back I record because I love playing the games and entertaining it's not like I'm trying to find a job or something through YT.

Language use in videos is going to be primarily about audience. A person who runs a channel for an audience that expects a particular level of snooty decorum will not do well using taboo words (aka "swear" or "curse" words); whereas someone who comes from a culture where vulgar language use is considered commonplace -- or even necessary to convey meaning -- using taboo words becomes absolutely necessary.

As it is, the middle-ground is actually where most people live. A YT channel that follows an individual talking about their everyday life is not being recorded in a library or a boardroom and most people have a tendency to punctuate conversation with taboo words because of symbolic impact. The whole reason taboo words exist is sometimes because of that impact.

We live language. Chances are good that someone who speaks a particular vernacular will get along with someone else who uses the same idioms and phrases -- but may not get along with someone else who doesn't.

Swear if thou must. The people disinterested will -- for lack of a better term -- "f**k off" and those who stay are more likely to be the desired audience.

So in a very educated why your saying swear if you want and those who do the same(the desired audience) will not mind it therefore they will watch your videos and come back for more? I really tried to make it as simple as possible so I may not have fully covered what you were saying so sorry lol. Thanks for your input!
 
I rarely check out videos that curse often. But if they have the personality/gaming knowledge to back them up, I'm content with it.
