Do looks really matter??

Both of these guys are successful movie reviewers and fanboys. Guess which one has a successful YouTube channel?

1- You´re just assuming beauty is the reason why one is successful on Youtube and the other isn´t. That´s not neccessarly the truth.

2- Stuckmann isn´t that good looking. He is average. And i know girls who find him painful to look at.

3- I know guys who are better reviewers than Stuckmann, funnier and better looking, and they´re not as successful as him. John Flickster, for example. John Flickster is pretty much better at everything and doesn´t have as many views and followers as stuckmann.

I know a dude as fat as the guy you posted that is more successful on YT than many good looking film reviewers. And he isn´t even good at what he does.

So, as you can imagine, there are many different variables that can contribute to someone´s success, and beauty is just one of them.

for me, I know im not that good looking so I know that part is holding me back, so that is why I try my hardest to be good at what im doing so that I don't rely on looks (even though my looks aren't that great)

Dude, there's a reason a lot of people are YouTube gamers...without webcam video integrated - most of us are ugly.

Now I don't know about the difference between gaming and vlogging in terms of set up, creation, and how they appeal to different crowds of people but I can make the safe assumption that this channel with "rubbish" content you talked about most likely only has a fan base of tween/teenage girls. Or guys even, depends on how people feel. But seriously - tweens and such will eat up a "pretty bae" like chocolate in a matter of seconds. If I had to guess, this is what the average thought process of a subscribe to that channel you described is:
"OMG, he's a cutie <3" *hits subscribe* -doesn't watch any of the videos ever, a week passes - "Hey Sarah, check out this guy I found on YouTube, he's such a cutie" *Shows "Cutie" to Sarah* SARAH: "OMG, you're so right!" *Sarah hits subscribe* -unfortunately for Cutie, neither of them ever watch his videos again.

So, that's how (I believe) most of that goes. Now if we're talking someone physically attractive and talented/funny, then damn...they pretty much just won the ovaries and tight jeans of the entire teenage and man-child audience of the entire globe.

True. There are certainly many youtubers that only achieve good levels of success because they´re good looking. But this world is full of opportunities, so don´t let that stop you. If you have to work a little harder to get noticed, then work a little harder. The type of crowd that will follow someone because of their looks is not valuable anyway. Most of them are kids. Kids have no commercial value, and they won´t make you a respected Youtuber outside their sad little circle.

One thing i have noticed in the videos of some members of this forum is that the production value is very, very, very, very low. They might think they´re not more popular because they´re ugly, but the reality is that there are other issues with their videos that they don´t seem to notice. They feel like everything is Ok with what they´re doing, and the only thing that holds them back is their looks, but that is obviously not true.

If you look at the videos of most popular Youtubers, they generally look good, sound good and are really well edited. Even if the content is bad, the production value is almost always good. People who fail on Youtube generally have s****y production value, and that´s a big part of the reason why they don´t grab people´s attention.

Oh, and never forget about timing. A lot of Youtubers are famous because of their timing. They started at the right time and took advantage of the fact that there was a big level of demand for that type of content. Most of new Youtubers are creating content for wich there´s no longer any kind of demand, so they´re very likely to fail. This game is full of people who start by offering something that is already being offered in a million different channels, so how can they expect to achieve any kind of success? It´s diffcult.

Wanna film yourself playing Arkham City? Go ahead. But keep in mind that there are already millions of people doing it, and unless you can do it in an exceptionally innovative way, nobody is going to pay attention to you. It´s like opening a mexican restaurant in a neighborhood that has already 50 mexican restaurants. It´s just not a good business plan. That´s why most people fail at everything. They forget about the importance of timing. They think they can just emulate what other people are doing and achieve the same level of success, and that´s just not gonna happen. At least, not most of the time.

Oh god im laughing so much after reading that middle section! :D

If you are a good looking guy / girl you can become successful on Youtube by having good looks + editing + camera skills alone.

I am always surprised that really good looking people out there don't simply start out a Youtube channel. Of course it's good they don't, because if they did we would all be screwed.
I think you are example number 1 here of good looking getting a lot of views. That being said, you also have good content :) So it's win win.

It seems like you got your answer in your own question. Your friend got 100 subscribers in a week because he's attractive.

In fact, a lot of vloggers are complete f*****g unfunny idiots but they get by on their looks (Looking at you, Nash Grier)
Look at piddleass, I like some of her vlogs but not all of them. She's just beautifull.
