Do looks really matter??

It's very important. It's not everything, but it is a very good helper!

I wouldn't be able to get big as a vlogger, I am not handsome, and not sexy! That's just how it is! :)

I'm going to speak the truth on the matter. Being black puts you at a huge disadvantage against many vloggers because the vlogging community is YouTube's version of CBS. The majority of top YouTubers are attractive, young, and white men. Young girls are a large portion of their audience. A lot of young white girls will not look at black guys because daddy told them so, they think we're criminals, they're disinterested in black men (this one is perfectly fine), they're afraid of us, or all of the above. Think about it like this. Do you see a lot of young girls getting hyped up for non-white musicians? Not really...

Unfortunately, society puts looks above all else when it comes to entertainment. People are conditioned to look at good looking people because that's all that they know.

YouTube is an entertainment industry. Looks matter as much as they do in acting or singing or anything else along those lines. Some folks value them highly when deciding who they like... other couldn't care less. But yes, it does matter. The world we live in.

Come on now you can't think like that, there are plenty of people of color that are popular. Destorm, Toddrick Hall, Kingsley. I understand that some of what you say is true for some small minded people, but I really don't think that is a valid statement for the majority.

First, I can and will think like that because it is the damn truth. Secondly, there are not many non-whites that are popular.

My statement is very valid for the majority. The people who you listed are just a few of non-whites that are popular. I recently read a 2013 article saying there are only two blacks in the top 100 channels on YouTube. Just because there are a few popular non-whites on YouTube doesn't mean that many viewers watch minorities. Look at this forum. Most members reference and talk about popular white Youtubers. Just to be clear, I'm not saying members at this board are racist. People here just happen to be followers of white Youtubers.

Look at YouTube's ads. When was the last time you saw Youtube place an ad for a black YouTuber? I'm black and I am always getting suggestions to watch white YouTubers. Nothing wrong with watching a white guy or especially a hot white girl. It makes me question why YouTube doesn't promote blacks.

Why are you saying people of color? That's so old fashion and comes off in a negative light.

Well one, I just said people of color because calling "black people" black just sounded rude and most "black people" aren't even black, but my bad.

Two, YouTube not placing ads has nothing to do with color, it has to do with what YouTubers pay money to have their ads placed out there. There's tons of other people that are famous and non-white.

I think looks are huge part of growing your channel. People will click on your videos if they think you're cute but content is important too, because if its dull or lame they'll click off. So if you have both its easier to gain subscribers but its not impossible if your not mainstream attractive. There's milesjai, glozell, mamriehart, etc. They aren't the best looking but they're all funny and entertaining where they are big regardless. I could watch mamrie for days.
