Youtube Algorythms

Fact of the matter is, there are some Youtube algorythms which at least I'm not sure how works.

That's how Google wants it so that people don't game the system.
Even if people shared their 2013 experiences with any algorythm testing, it might not be valid information in three months.

3rd and last of all: Search engine algorythms.
Many people on this forum claim that the search engine priotitizes like this: Title > Description > Tags, however do any of you have any proof of this? Because in my mind it's ridiculous that your description should be more relevant than your tags. Are you absolutely sure that's how it works, and if so which base are you making this claim on.

Also going back to my previous point, does it prioritize a couple relevant keywords, or just just a whole bunch of related keywords?

In a vacuum, tags aren't actually that important in the search results.

And yes it can be quite easily proved by looking at the tags of some high ranking videos for a given search term.

Here's an example that took me 5 seconds to find:

search term: "gta 5 flying school"

99k results

Front page, 5th result (for me) -

The video has one TAG (the channel name) - ""TheBrilliant"

If tags were important, he'd need at least one of the search terms in his tags right? Well he has NONE of them :)

tags are used mainly for 1)targeting ads to videos and 2)the suggested videos and then 3)a little bit but not that much in search results

this is probably one of the worst example possible...game just came out + he is already known XD

If pewdiepie doesnt tag his video will he not gain thousands of views? XD

The question I was addressing was "are tags important in getting to the top of YT search ?" And to provide proof that they are less important than other variables.

The fact the game just came out is totally irrelevant to who gets to be top dog. All that means is that lots of people will be searching those keywords.

The fact that the video I gave as an example got to to the top page because "he is already known" proves my point. Factors other than just tags are more important to get you to the top.

He doesn't have any relevant tags at all, but yet he is above other videos that do.[DOUBLEPOST=1380147842,1380147486][/DOUBLEPOST]

We are not talking about views. We are talking about views from YT search. But to answer the question. Pewdiepie would still gain thousands of views with no tags and those views would come from search, suggested videos and his subs.

I am not saying tags are not important - they are really important for showing up in the suggested vids on the right, but not so much in the actual search results. Not as important as other factors anyway, which is what OP was asking.

To be honest, I don't even know anymore. If you search "Mark of the Ninja Special edition" I'm 5th on there and my tags for that video are: Mark Of The Ninja,Special,Edition,Mark of the Ninja Special Edition,Klei Entertainment,Dosan,Ninja,Stealth,a tale from the past, review,Mark of the Ninja Gameplay. How I got to page 1 baffles me as I have tried multiple techniques; being more specific with tags, using less tags and going nuts with tags. lol Could be possible that it's a less played game though.... General rule I go by is that I make the title what people will search for, I add search keywords to the tags i.e. Mark of the Ninja Special Edition is what people will search for specifically, so that's the Title, it's in the description and in the tags. I think it helps lol

But if you look carefully, you'll notice on the search page, that in the description "Mark of the ninja special edition" is highlighted in bold. So the description does affect the search results, that's a given. I think I did change things a few times though, that was just so I could get page 1 of the "This Month" filter, never intended to get page 1 as it seemed impossible. At this stage, with all the problems YouTube is having, I'd be surprised if the algorithm worked properly to begin with.
