YouTube Algorithm Update?

For anyone with concerns about lower view counts, this MAY be a cause. I doubt YouTube will confirm this so you can take it as a rumor/speculation or however. Only thing to do is wait and see :D

Tweet video summary for those who can't see video, FuturisticHub (1M+ subs) claims:
  • Current YT algorithm is frozen. People exploiting the watch time analytic due to live streaming (perhaps airing videos/clips on a loop).
  • New YT algorithm coming in late October.
  • New YT algorithm to have improved content ID to reduce promotion for "reaction" channels that use clips from (I assume) newly released videos.
 
Wow... I didn't know the algorithm was changing. That is nice to know! I need to keep up with YouTube updates, lol!
 
Oohhh that explains why my channel has been seeing spikes. I started YouTube live streaming and notice a spike in everything. The guy calls it cheating but I don't think it is considering I'm streaming a game and will get less views than a regular video. I had a feeling YT ranked me higher since the streams get less views overall. I wonder how the new algo will work and what it will prioritize o.o

I just hope it actually works when it's released...
 
When he says at 0:42 that "I've been working with Youtube behind the scenes on this", does he mean he worked in a paid consultant capacity?

I would assume he would have signed an NDA with anything to do with the inner workings of the algorithm. Not sure how he can reveal this sort of info and worked behind the scenes? Correct me if I'm wrong... every time I worked on IT contracts there were comprehensive NDAs contracts signed....

The blanket comment of "everyone's views and subs are down" could not be further from the truth. Our views and subs have skyrocketed the past 6 weeks, yes there was a 30% drop in views the last 2 weeks as kids get back into school, but that's expected from viewer behavior and not algorithmic factors per se, and now views are moving again to summer vacation levels.... so take that video with a (big) grain of salt...

Yeah, I've been doing very well over the past few weeks, so whatever weirdness is going on with the algorithm, I hope it doesn't make things go in a different direction for me when and if YouTube makes updates.
