When a Video Idea isn't Working...

It's hard to say what other people will like though. One of the major reasons I don't like scrapping content is because I've seen some horrible stuff get millions of views. I do keep to a standard for my own videos though. None of em are perfect, but if I liked all 200+ of them enough to upload em.
Yeah I feel you. I guess for me the ones that I've scrapped I just personally didn't want up on the internet because I knew I could do better. They just didn't meet my personal standard, but honestly yeah there are a good few videos out there that get tons of views and aren't the best. I'd just rather like my stuff before placing it on the internet, at least at the time of upload.

I also tend to hate everything I do with an underlying appreciation for it. I can't tell if that's me being over picky, but I guess the fact that I'm so small after 2 years says otherwise lol. Maybe I should be more selective. I'm actually doing a "soft reboot" of my scripted crap.

If you wouldn't watch it yourself then it's probably best to scrap and start over. Don't post a video if you don't want to post it. It's your channel :)

Lol, I never like watching myself. So it's hard to decide if I'm making crap, or just not wanting to watch myself. Jesse Eisenberg has the same philosophy. Maybe if he did watch himself, he wouldn't have accidentally played the Joker in Batman V Superman...

I'm still a fairly small channel too, and I've also been around for [almost] 2 years now. To be fair it is really hard to tell what content is good and bad because it's harder to get people to watch and comment on your videos and of course as creators we're biased about our own work one way or another. Even videos I hate and don't post I keep because even though I won't post them I know how much work went into them one way or another so it's hard for me to trash them. On some of my okay videos I tend to enjoy the process of filming and then slowly start disliking the footage during editing so I have to remind myself sometimes about the energy I had when I was filming because I'm usually pretty serious about an idea when I film it. On my best videos I love them almost completely even when looking back on them a few months later.
I've also noticed that a good way to find out if a video is good or bad is to allow someone you know in real life who you trust to be honest with you to watch it and tell you what they think, that is of course if you don't mind people in real life knowing about your channel because it bothers some people.

It's amazing that people get bothered by it lol. And I keep EVERYTHING. I just buy more and more hard drives. You never know when you'll make some dumb Supernatural parody intro for a "season finale." Never.

Yeah, that sucks. I just did that myself. I was already to publish it and I got this knot in my stomach. I just knew it wasn't right.

I'll probably try to find my favorite part of the video and rework it from there. But if you don't like it, odds are your viewers won't either.

I abandon it 100% of the time. If I don't like it it doesn't get posted. I have to be happy with the end result. In a way I am my worst critic! I have tossed hours of footage away due to that.

If I'm really keen on the topic/idea then I'd probably have a rethink around how to make it better and why it didn't work and then refilm.
