Most of my videos are over 20 minutes in length and several are over 30 minutes in length, and I think that’s one reason YouTube has promoted me as much as they have. With the onslaught of “cord cutters” - people that have dropped their cable tv subscriptions in lieu of online streaming, YouTube is now a major contender on the living room big screen as opposed to just mobile devices. When I watch YouTube on the big screen, I purposefully look for longer videos to watch, like old school television. So, when I started my channel about 8 months ago, I went in knowing I would be making longer videos. I figured if I liked watching longform content on YouTube, then others might too. And while I’m certainly breaking no records, I am pleased with 16,000+ subscribers in just 8 months. And I think some of that came from YouTube actively suggesting my content.
So, don’t limit yourself by time. Turn on the camera and tell the story you want to tell, and don’t worry about the length. If it’s good, people will watch it. Good luck, friend!
