Self advertising?

You either need the backing of a large amount of friends / some kind of community, get incredibly lucky or spam. As i don't have loads of friends to share with or have the backing of a community and i seriously doubt i will get lucky, that only leaves the spamming option, i will continue to do it until I get to the size needed for natural growth.

(posting in forums/websites/social media is also spamming in some form so unless you are literally uploading your videos and not telling anybody about it then you are all already spamming in some way or another)
 
Spamming is promoting in areas that are not meant for promotion like comments, forums emails, etc. but there are so many websites out there that you can post your videos at. REAL promoting takes a lot of work and for those that say "I cant get noticed" and "spam is all I can do" is B.S. My channel is growing at an ok pace based on me promoting my channel legitimately. I spend countless hours promoting, as do so many others, so anyone that says "its too hard" or Its not possible" either doesn't know its possible or is just straight up lazy.
 
I have a real problem with spamming in comments. All that it's going to bring is hate on your channel and on your videos and MAYBE a sub every 1000 people that see your comments. I think the best way to self-promote would be to tell everyone you know. Tell your mom, dad, brothers, sisters, your bank teller, your cashier, EVERYBODY because if they like it then they will tell more people especially your family!
 
I would say do what you want. Spamming has both good and bad points. You WILL gain subs/views but you will also get dislikes and hate comments on your videos.
 
I too have this same problem, my subscribers and views don't really increase and the amount of followers and like I get on twitter and facebook stops when I run out of friends :P I don't know how to get different groups of people to watch my videos

My channel is new and I can only hope that I don't have to resort to spamming someday, but I'm not sure you can say that it doesn't work.

Too often I see a spam comment that was upvoted, made top comment and even has a bunch of replies like "I normally don't click on spam but I'm glad I did because your videos are really good". And when I click on that channel it actually has thousands of subs. However, I do wonder sometimes whether that person "faked" the upvotes/replies...
