Reddit or not to Reddit? That is the question!

Reddit typically isn't the best way to advertise gaming videos. The communities are too big - you won't have a single redditor who cares about your uploads in particular. Building "trust" within a subreddit with participating in discussions means nothing - nobody will remember you, because they're probably clicking on hundreds of links an hour.

For newer Youtubers, it's even worse. Redditors will purposely dislike all your videos if you post something they don't like, because 75% of the time, they're just plain mean. I have never seen such a negative community of people. That doesn't mean there aren't nice people on reddit, it's just that people who sort by "new" on a subreddit typically are very judgemental (or, they're downvoting your post to look their post look better. Happens all the time).

I consider myself EXTREMELY lucky. I can attribute a large part of my success to reddit. (Not that I'm a big youtuber, but reddit brings in those views). I found a community that had 100,000+ subscribers but very few posts a day (it's a very niche genre of videos with very few content creators). I got lucky. For a genre so crowded, like gaming, I'm sorry, but reddit just won't work.
yea well good thing i dont do gaming videos
and ya they have a rep for being negitive

The key to reddit is understanding that nobody gives a s**t about your channel, or your video - you've got to give them content that they're actually interested in.
That's so true. You need to post your best of the best with honours sir and not your everyday junk.

Yea I see now, so basically share awesome vids there and if you happen to make a vid that you think is awesome share it but very rarely do it anyway ... I think I know understands the Reddits

I've not used Reddit for very long, but it has gained me a few subscribers, views and very helpful reviews of my channel, so I can't really complain there. I guess it kinda prepares you for the big bad world ahead! Haha.

Ha yea and I guess getting hate comments or dislike boted will happen eventually especially if you were to get popular so eh whatever. Trying to please the reasonable ppl and not the fake ones. #shakeitoff

Here's are three steps that could come in handy:

1) Build a rapport in the relevant subreddit(s)
2) Promote noteworthy videos, and other links that are not self-promotion (gray area, have to be careful)
3) Same as step two, except that you should comment and relate to the video.

For example, someone asks how does one repair a car. You could reply giving some advice, followed by posting the video link, like this:
"Well, you've to start this and this and this. However if you prefer to watch it being done hands on, I've made a video to demonstrate the steps"

Reddit is great way to promote, but it is very hard to do it correctly, so you dont get banned from posting links/videos on it :)

Redd it is very 50/50

Your post will either receive good love or serious hate. And if neither of the above happen then chances are your post wasnt that interesting or you aint within the community.

Reddit Users hate newbies coming into their subs and doing the classic "Dump & Run" technique. For you to be able to really take advantage of Reddit's huge community your gonna have to earn their trust and become a regular member, know your not spam and an actual active member of the sub, then when you got some brownie points, drop your stuff here and there but dont over do it.
