Reddit or not to Reddit? That is the question!

I registered there but I only look there to get better keywords for my video tags or even title.. I learned it in one advice of becoming better in SEO.. :)

Reddit is constantly blowing people up on youtube, how hard to you think it is to push reddit, in order to get your videos onto the front page of some of their subreddits? This must be a strategy by some people in order to gain a bigger audience?

I think its just about posting in an active and appropriate sub-reddits more than anything else. And then if the content is good and the stars align, you are well away.

After years of trying one of my video is doing quite well on there. I just was active on a smaller sub reddit posted my video there was liked and somebody posted it on a bigger sub reddit. yayyyyy

When you ask a question like this, the underlying question is "How can I get what I want from these Redditors?"
You need to come from a place of service and adding value to their life and ask yourself "How can I help these Redditors?" or "What do they like, and how can I give them more of that?"
Something to think about.

and ask yourself "How can I help these Redditors?" or "What do they like, and how can I give them more of that?"
And also "How can I become a respected member of their community and contribute to the site on a regular basis". That will not only help you learn what kind of posts do well, but also it will remove the stigma of self promotion when you do happen to post your own stuff. People won't be turned off by it if they see your name often.

I wouldn't expect much from Reddit unless you're a very regular user that uploads posts about other people's creations.

Generally Reddit isn't very friendly with self-promotion and some people there will go ahead and brigade you for self-promoting. I can tell you by experience that, unless you have a fanbase in your particular subreddit where it can easily post your creations for you whenever they're out and upvote your posts, you're going to have a hard time self-promoting. Also given to the fact that there is a ratio of 10% for self-promotion posts.

It is all dependent on the type and quality of the content you're posting. Post a let's play and it doesn't matter if it's the best let's play the world has ever seen, you will be downvoted because people will assume they've seen it all. But, take one crazy ridiculous kill (there was one recently of a guy who ejected, sniped the guy out of the plane following him, and then landed in that guy's plane) and convert it to an animated gif, link to the video in the comment section, and you will get views regardless of if people think it's self promotion. If the content is compelling enough no one will care. The thing is, 99% of the content posted there is not compelling enough.

I've been posting my latest video about the entire YouTube drama to various relevant subreddits that focus on the issues that YouTube is facing lately, say stuff like /r/GradeAUnderA or /r/h3h3productions or the sort. And since I posted them, I got dislikes on this video in particular, like a good bunch of them. It really quite made the like/dislike ratio quite ugly at this point.

And so far, I got one comment which actually calls me "cringe".

So I don't know, but Reddit seems to me like a bloody mess. Should I find somewhere else to post this video? I want to spread the word I am explaining in the video as much as possible, for the sake of the proper hashtag movements (#MakeYoutubeGreatAgain and #WTFU). I want to further the discussion there.

And no, before you say it, I don't have as much Twitter or Facebook followers acive enough to share a lot.

/r/GradeAUnderA and /r/h3h3productions are in fact subreddits for those channels, not your video. Unfortunately that is how reddit works. If you post something in the wrong subreddit or not accoring the so called reddiquette the community will give you dislikes. Especially when your video is not moderated out fast enough.

Reddit is really really really tricky like that and the community even more so. I'm not a big fan, but I also do try to get some views of them since it's got kinda many viewers. Have you tried /r/videos yet? I can't post there because of my gameplay, but you probably can....right?
