I feel your pain... I am on the grand gaming train that seems to never stop and all the carriages are overcrowded and when you do find a seat its reserved for the big boys...weird tangent there but we made it! Basically its tough but do it for you and the sub base you do acquire, don't worry about the rest!

Go niche bro. Under-appreciated games with loyal fan bases. It's the middle path, and it'll get you going faster than anything else will. You can usually post your videos around on some blogs and possibly a subreddit.

My niche is for the Doom lovers so my channel for those who appreciate that type of game, not to mention the periodic non-Doom or non-game videos.

I do not care for money, I care to make subs happy and encourage them to make unmonetized content as well. Why do I say this? I do not have the enthusiasm to do daily videos anymore like I once did, not to mention not able to find something to play through sometimes.

Yea its nearly impossible to make it huge... It just takes a lot of work and perseverance. You know that feeling of wanting to quit? It doesn't go away. I'm approaching 8,000 subs and I just feel like throwing in the towel. Of course I've put so many hours into it, and I know I'm not really going to quit. But the discouragement will continue, you just have to fight it.

8000? That's 8000 people that voluntarily subscribed to your channel. That's 8000 people that want to watch you and know when you make new content. Your mind cannot even picture 8000 people sitting in one area. I know it seems like nothing compared to the millions that the bigger channels have obtained, but 8000 is a lot of f*****g people.

Depends what you mean by make it I just hit 1000 subscribers a goal I never thought I'd reach my motivation is for those people already following me not for the ones who will be in the future. Though all of us feel like it's a huge mountain to climb some of the time it's all about the journey rather than the destination.

If you are talking by making a living on youtube then that's simply any channel in this day and age. Now that there are hundreds on thousands of channels it is hard to get attention not just for gaming. It really comes down to personality, your what games you do, how often you upload, and so forth. The hardest part for any youtuber is getting any attention to your channel and getting noticed, especially those first 1000 subs.

Yep. Like I've said before, YouTube is a zero sum game. A minute I spend watching one channel is a minute I don't spend on another. The more channels get added to the mix, the fewer can rise above.

On the other hand, channels today are so much bigger than channels of yesteryear because the internet is turning more central to life AND new kids show up daily so... who knows haha.

Very true! I tip my hat to you good sir!

Title says it all. Do you guys think that it is near impossible to make it as a gaming YouTuber? I mean so many people do YouTube now and lots of people make the same sort of thing. I find it very hard to find something unique to do. So I have thought many times to switch from gaming to another area on YouTube.

What is your opinion on this matter?

Instead of playing the AAA tittles all the time pick up the discounted games and use footage of those games. A lot of times there more fun anyway because you haven't been blinded by the hype.
