Quality Vs Quantity

Steven Snow

I've Got It
So this is a topic I have been going back and forth with as I think of what's next for my channel. I have my next two videos planned but after that I haven't nailed down exactly what I'll do. Right now I am putting quality as priority one and spent 60+ hours on my latest video that has about 60 views ATM.

Now this is because I'm new so I don't sweat it and I would make these videos regardless of my views but would it be smarter to try and get out something more frequent until I have a bit more traffic or will the effort I put in eventually pay off and have a snowball effect?

My guess is that quantity leads to a quick growth burst at the start and then slows, while quality takes a while to get rolling but then starts to grow quite well.

I'm interested to hear from this community's opinions and experiences on this topic.

I would say go for quality, if you make quality content people are more likely to spread the word about your content and you will make more noise in the community that way.

Personally I would rather subscribe to someone who makes 1 quality video, rather than someone who spams my subbox with videos that are below par. I would just keep doing what you are doing with quality as people will be more likely to enjoy your work. Hope that helped atleast a little! :)

I think instead of uploading tons of stuff, focus on the stuff that you upload and make it widely appealing. If you can get gateway videos early on you can get really big.

There is always a happy middle. You can spend 2 weeks perfecting a video and people will really dislike the fact that you take that long to make videos. Or you can make 2 videos a day and irritate your subs (trust me that is way to much. 1 a day is pushing the limit). So really you have to find your happy middle of finding how long you want to spend to make a good quality with a good amount of quantity. There is no set amount. Gaming channels can make 5-7 videos a week and get away with it. But if a vlogger did that... It wouldn't work out seeing as the quality would suffer greatly.

so you just gotta find your happy middle. as with everything in life.

Excellent posting and i agree with you 1000% i always tell people on these forums always aim for quality rather than quantity i like really like this part of your post [My guess is that quantity leads to a quick growth burst at the start and then slows, while quality takes a while to get rolling but then starts to grow quite well.]

Sounds good :)

Yep this is where I am at now trying to really figure out that golden middle area... I also think as I get more experience I'll start producing content faster as well. I'm hoping as my experience with the process increases so will my speed and I'll reach a good medium.[DOUBLEPOST=1368736938,1368736700][/DOUBLEPOST]

Thank you, I'm glad to see other like minded YouTubers. I hope my theory is true. :)

This is some of the best advise on here - always try to find a nice balance.

My advice is to make the highest consistent quality stuff you can on a schedule. This is just from my experience, but a consistent schedule is #1 to growing a channel. What I mean is, we make a video every Monday and Thursday and shoot for a certain standard of quality each week. Of course in theory we could make higher quality videos if we published once a month, but the way I see it, we'd probably be looking at 100% perfection once a month, or 85% eight times a month. People will subscribe because they like you. And if they like you, they just want to see you at around the same quality they subscribed to. Every now and then we do work on a full quality "special video" where we put our everything into it, and we typically treat it like a big event and people are always really impressed with that video. Plus, the more we get used to this whole YouTube thing, our average weekly quality gets better over time. Just my thoughts! Hope they help :D

I would go with quality all the way. Before I did a bit more research into YouTube, I went for quantity. I got a fair number of views but not many of them turned into subscribers.
