I think as long as there are free channels out there with good content to watch it wont really affect most people. I can see why Vevo would charge to have their content watched, I wouldnt pay for it myself but there will be loads of people who mostly use YouTube for watching music videos.

I am thinking the same, this will be in competition with Netflix and YouTube has LOADS more content so they could make millions out of it, I can imagine partners and those involved rightfully receiving a share from the fees too which isnt that bad.

I quite like the idea of having paid subscribers, for example you could have a paid vlog which only your hardcore fans will pay to watch, they will feel like theyre getting more of you than others so it could be worth it for them, similar to an unlisted video which is only linked to in the annotations of a public video but with money involved.

@Shane.Vultra I think it could be good for anyone to opt into, you could be very creative with whatever premium content you release, a gamer could have a vlog or something on the side for their fans.

I personally don`t see this ever being released to the vast majority of users for the reasons :

1) If there is only a few high production shows, revenue will be higher
2) There would be scam problems, like I can imagine someone posting a video with an epic title and thumbnails but when you buy it, it`s only blank screen.... etc
 
For everybody freaking out, I think this is only for selected, premium channels, that choose to activate this. It's like how you can choose to upload a video for "rental", meaning you have to pay in order to watch it. YouTube has yet to implement a system where you have to pay to watch videos no matter what. This will only be done by corporate channels, like NBC or something. They won't make you pay every time you subscribe to a channel, that's highly unlikely.

I hadn't thought of that, perhaps only to network partners then and have the videos screened in some way or another, you could say the same about livestreaming when that came out, people could abuse that in all kinds of ways but with it being locked down to full partners it seems to have been fine as far as I know anyway.
