Oh January...

Having the same problem lost about 50% of earnings in January compared with December:(. Monetized views are the same but the revenue is like I said 50% lower.

It's always the way. Things will pick up in the next couple of months, but at the moment advertisers are re-thinking their strategies and haven't sorted out their budgets for video ads etc so things are a little slow.

My earnings haha, the last point is the 2 of January :)

That's just how things are. Once the Christmas season is over earnings fall. It's only till around Easter that they begin to rise again.

So it begins. My analytics have just updated with earning from the 1st of January and they are about a quarter of my usual daily earnings in December. Stupid new year ;)

This is my first year on YouTube, can someone who has been through these cycles before give some insight on how long this lasts? Is this the bottom or are there more decreases ahead? Do we really have to wait until easter to see it go up again? I know December was high, but how does late January compare to October?

It will be a gradual improvement from now until March probably. This is as bad as it gets, it's difficult to guage seasonal variation for the rest of the year because your earnings are going up but presumably your channel is growing too so deciding what is growth and what is YouTube-wide improvement in revenue is hard to do.

Thank you for your thoughtful response, although this is another piece that I've been wondering about. Does the rate really change based on growth if you divide your views by your earnings? I was assuming that YouTube was blind to the size of my channel in determining the rate of pay, and that it was a formula of matching keywords to advertiser's interest. So that a brand new channel on my subject would earn the same rate per 1000 views as I do. That a new channel and my larger channel's rates would rise and fall in sink just based on what advertisers are willing to pay on a given day. Is there more to the formula?

It depends on whether you are partnered with a network who is willing to put time into finding advertisers specifically for your videos. For the most part you are right though, for smaller channels (less than 100k subs), the amount you make per 1000 views is unlikely to differ too much as you grow. It's only the larger channels that will have anyone pay a significant premium to advertise on their channel.

Being with YouTube for 2 years now I can tell you that starting March the CPM will start rising till around end of June and drop again to as low as it is now. To rise again around end of August beginning of September.

Yeah that's what i think, guys its just because advertisers are paying less what with the Christmas season over there's no rush to advertise. Anyways i thought there were supposed to be devastating changes on 1 January? Were those few extra content ID matches supposed to be the big changes? Cos i heard that you wouldn't get monetized until youtube staff approved, but i hope not.

Here's my massive drop (views gone up, pay goes down, funny really.)
