Less views than normal?

another YouTube glitch? If so will they correct it or are we just going to be sitting at low views?
The other day I had one day where my views were 1/3 of what they usually are. As someone who has been affected by algorithm changes in a major way in the past, I was curious as to whether that was an algorithm change or just a glitch. The next day my views were back to normal. I wouldn't worry until 3 or 4 days go by without any change, at which point I would conclude that an algorithm change has affected your channel in a negative way. Algorithm changes trickle down to the smallest of Youtubers. It's a chain reaction. If a guy gets 100k views/day on one of his videos and take an algorithm hit, dropping that video to 50k views/day, it affects every single video that appears in that video's suggested video section. So if that top video in the suggested video section was getting 10k views/day from that video, all of the sudden it's getting only 5k/day and all of the videos in its own suggested video section will suffer as well...and so on and so forth. This is why a drop in views doesn't necessarily mean you did anything wrong or there is anything wrong with your content/retention/etc. It could just be a trickle down effect. Check your traffic sources to see exactly where you are losing the views compared to a couple weeks ago.

Hopefully for you it's not an algorithm change, but who knows. My views have been up the past few days and I know it's due to a slight change in the suggested video section placement of my videos. Whether it was a natural progression based on engagement or a tweak to the algorithm is anyone's guess (I'd guess algorithm), but when an algorithm change does happen there are always winners and losers. You usually only hear from those who lost views so it's hard to determine whether it's a glitch. In my experience, if the change in views/day persists for more than a few days 95% of the time it isn't a glitch.

37% of all my views are from suggested video's. If i see a(huge)drop in views in most cases because of suggested video's placement. Check Analytics traffic sources where the views coming from and compare the dates where you losing views.

Some bigger youtubers mentioned that their videos never got sent to subscribers subscription box! so that could also have happened and would have played into less views! Closer to normal, but still slightly less! Too bad, I really was excited about the vlog! We saw a bear in front of our apartment![DOUBLEPOST=1441231541,1441223387][/DOUBLEPOST]makes me feel better, we'll see!

Yup - now it is clear - there was a switch form summer holiday traffic to non summer holiday traffic. Both the views on our last video and the overall traffic during working days have decreased (relatively big spike during the weekend).

Have you checked your traffic sources? Is it a drop across the board for all sources? Just make sure there wasn't a big change to any of the videos that have provided you with traffic last week compared to this week. At one point, my video was the featured video on 'Me at the Zoo' (first video on Youtube) and got a good amount of traffic from it. One day I noticed my traffic was down 15% from usual. A couple days later I checked and sure enough, my video had dropped from the number one slot in Suggested videos (something that used to be called 'featured video') to 3/4 down the list.

I'm a stats junkie so I need to look at all those things and pay close attention to them.

I know the exact reason - several semi-viral videos (from the summer) have lost their "suggested video" traffic source (except one may be). Also our main viral video - switched to school pattern (less traffic during working days) and much more during weekends - it is popular among small school kids.

I strongly suspect the algorithm is proactively adjusting itself during the holidays season to optimise traffic and revenue - it is not entirely organic driven change. I do not know the exact rules of adjustment of course.

So your main viral video didn't lose it's primary suggested video source? You're just getting less views from the suggested video source videos for that video? I'm only asking out of curiosity. None of my channels are affected by the school year for the most part.

Exactly. It it is a make up kit review and is getting traffic from very similar sources. This type of videos are very popular among primary school girls - so there is nothing surprising that the traffic will decrease during school days. Usually in the spring there is a big reshuffling of sources but the algorithm still couldn't find anything better than our video for this particular niche :)
