The argument make perfect sense. We pay internet providers to have access to the internet. YouTube does not directly profit from internet providers. However, YouTube does profit when users are clicking and watching ads. YouTube would not have users clicking ads without internet providers providing access to the internet.

It's no different than TV. We pay the monthly cable bill to watch our favorite programs. Programs will not earn money if you choose to watch different program. A program will get canceled for having low ratings because not enough people are tuning in and watching ads.
All TV stars and programs get paid for their acting/just showing up. YouTubers have to pay to create their content out of pocket.

Hiring people and paying taxes can take an insane amount of money out of how much they make, so I don't see a problem with a kickstarter.

I was not speaking about TV stars or even mention them. I was strictly speaking about TV programs. Programs earn money through ads and sponsors. Programs will not get renewed if they fail to attract an audience. A Network will dump them and they will lose potential earnings that they could of earned if the networked renewed the contract. Thus, the program will not be able to pay its crew and stars for future seasons.

People are require to pay taxes when they receive so much money in donations by using Kickstarter depending on how they use the funds.

Right. But I don't understand how that makes them morally questionable? A little selfish, maybe. But everyone leverages the audience they have, especially when it's big.

I dont mind what they do, if they deliver what they promised to deliver with their Kickstarter and the funds go fully onto that then I dont see an issue with it.

Let's say Smosh asked for $200,000... they earned $400,000 in profits from the video in a 5 year window.

They took advantage of crazed fans and the fans will not receive any profits despite being the producers.

If fans find personal or entertainment value in contributing to the project, that is up to them.

Someone asks for something, someone willingly gives it to them. There's no need to complicate it with talking about people's salaries and business models. If someone is willingly giving away something without being mislead, there's no question of morality.

I don't think its too big of a deal usually the stuff that's crowdfunded is running a show and you can't really be certain of all the staff that is involved in that process and thus the fees attached. So they go to the fans rather than bombarding people with tonnes of sponserships.

For crowd-funding to work you need a crowd. You obviously don't have one (and neither have I for that matter).

Stop acting butt hurt that people can get to money easy while you are having a hard time gaining traction. These threads are always started by the same genre of YouTubers. Those that started out YouTube because they wanted money, got reality checked, and then decide to join a forum to vent their anger only to find an ******* such as myself telling them they should stop being butthurt and just YouTube on. Everyone that is successful started YouTube with an idea they love, if it's a hobby you don't care about the income. Sure, it would be very nice to get a livable wage from YouTube, I know I could use it. But it is not the leading factor in having my YouTube account. The leading factor is... FUN! I could stay at ~120 average video views and ~360 subs forever and not bat an eye.

b***h you need to know your damn place. There is nothing wrong with anyone starting a YouTube channel to earn money. Great you have fun shooting videos. It's not the same for everyone else. Everyone has different motives on YouTube. Yes, I have fun. However, I also do it for the money. I'm not expecting to get rich. It's nice to have extra cash in my pocket from Google Adsense. Most of my earnings are from various websites and not YouTube. You have no right to speak on how much money I make with Google. You don't know a damn thing about me or my revenue resources.

You need a reality check. There are many businesses on YouTube and their main goal is to earn money. ESPN uploads videos on YouTube because their crowd will watch their monetized videos. Some people make false personas to earn money and have been very successful on YouTube.

I would never make a kickstarter if I had a crowd. I have said this MANY TIMES that it is THE BUSINESS'S RESPONSIBILITY TO UPGRADE ITS RESOURCES. My stance clearly means that I would NEVER ask any of my subscribers for money to upgrade my equipment.

By the way you worthless human, I joined this forum over a year ago and have been an active member on this site. I did NOT just join to vent about anything. Hell I am not even venting. I stated my moral stance on a topic and that is it. People can ask their fans for money but that doesn't mean that I should agree that it is an okay moral.

I never said it is wrong to start a channel with the objective to make money. But, the words used in your reply just validated my original response. You have a nice day fuming. I am going to put something on the grill.
