Is facecam important for let's play videos?

Hello everyone. I apologize in advance if this isn't the right place to post this thread. Just as the title says. I recently started youtubing (if that's a word? It should be) and this question have always been on my mind ever since.

I don't think its necessary but when you reach a certain point in terms of viewership it could be a great card to keep in your back pocket for a boost. If you build a fanbase who enjoys your videos without Facecam and then you reach a certain point where you feel comfortable using one, people LOVE face reveals, and the Facecam is sure to attract a whole new audience to the videos.

I myself don't use facecam because I prefer relative anonymity but at some point I may.

It's a legit question.
When I watch videos about videogames, I focus on the game itself, not much on what's around it, so I find facecams to be cluttering and distracting. Also many channels that employ facecams have a subtle focus shift from the game on to the person who's playing it, which is exactly what I am not looking for.
