Is an intro really useful?

It seems to be, for most people, a good thing to have an intro in your videos.
But as a viewer I've never seen them as something that ads anything to a video (I actually find them mostly annoying as they tend to be edited with really loud electro/dubstep music) : /
What do you guys think?

the only intros i like are the ones made specifically for each video, which is why I do those. I make a new one each video, try checking it out.

intros can be good. For example, if someone sees your intro and remembers it and sees another one of your videos later they might be able to recognize who you are. Its very important that intros are kept short and simple. If you have seen comedy centrals intro or college humors intro they are both >2 seconds long

In my opinion, intros are a way of adding to your branding of yourself, and it relates all of your videos. If you watch anything on TV they have an intro, it helps you to know who you're watching and just can show a little of your personality a bit. As long as you keep them a few seconds long they don't usually get too annoying.

Good for branding, but I like videos where they cut to the chase. :)
So, add something to grab their attention and then add an intro, I see quite a lot of YouTubers do this.

On my old channel I had an intro and I the same thinking as you. They really don't do much for the channel, I dont have an intro on my new channel and my new channel is doing much better then my old channel was. So idk.

I guess that may also depend on the content...
I'm generally fine with them on Vlogs and comedy videos but when it comes to walkthroughs and such... I don't know : /

I find that intros are just a bit useless; to me. What's the point of having your name flash on the screen? Also, having really snazzy (old, weird word) intros doesn't improve your video quality. This is just my opinion :p

I agree. I hate intros. Whenever I see an intro in a video, I fast forward past it.. I just hate wasting time watching an intro even if it's short.
The only time I ever kind of have an intro is if I make a top android games video and say "here are the best blah blah blah of 2013" and have no video to go with that sentence, then I try to put in some kind of "intro" video so it's not a blank screen (though that isn't really an intro like people showing their channel names). Otherwise, none of my videos have intros, I don't want to waste anyone's time with an intro when audience retention is already low enough. Gotta get to the point fast.
