Hey everyone, just wondering how many people you roughly need to have subscribed to you and how many views you need to start earning proper money from youtube? Like I literally have no idea so just wanted a rough estimate? And by proper money I mean like £100 per video or something? haha sorry for being so vague! Thank you!

It all depends on what kind of commercials you get on your videos. Some are worth more than others. But I read somewhere it's like 1-2$/ 1000 veiws.

That's a good estimate to work with - but keep in mind that that's monetized views. So, let's say half of your views are monetized, to keep the math simple

So, £100 is $156 (thanks, Google).
156 = mv (monetized views) * 0.002
156 = [v (total views) * 0.5] * 0.002
156 / 0.002 = 0.5 * v
78000 = 0.5 * v
78000 / 0.5 = v
v = 156000 views

So, to make £100 per video, you need approximately 156000 views per video.

I used to have a channel that got around a thousand views a month, and i earned like 30p every two weeks or so, So you need quite a few views for anything significant

Agreed. Even the big YouTubers are opening other channels because the money isn't enough since their views are going down for some odd reason.

It's not about the subs. It's about the views you get. Subs can give a rough estimate of how many people are your "fans"/ show support.
However it mostly depends on the views and the value if each advert and the percentage you get.

That wasn't vague at all! Check the math that gisikw provided.
I'm glad that you'e are thinking about how much effort it takes to
really earn anything. This way you know ahead of time how you
should have realistic expectations and also not over-spend on
items like expensive cameras and such.
