How hard was it to get going?

I've Got It
Being only a few weeks into this, I had no expectations of finding a fanbase over night, that's just crazy talk, but one of the things I keep thinking about was having something as a base to work with. Because i'm fairly new, I don't have an idea of where a good point would be, or what you would even consider a bad point for where I am.

I'd like to think that almost two weeks in, I've made pretty good progress for myself. It's really hard getting into it as a gamer just because there are so many similar thinking people out there, that you really just have to attempt to break that mold so others see why you're so different, and hope it sticks with them. But the one thing still that i'd like to ask some others, was how long was it until you reached that point? Some find it pretty fast, others can go years without ever making it, but i'm more curious to hear about the story of when it happened, and your reaction.

7 Months later I'm still not "Going".

Well I guess I have a fan base, I very small one...It feels to me more like a group of friends because we all know each other and we just play more video games together whenever we can.

I'm still kinda stuck, to reach 1k subs it took me almost 2-3 months to get them and I was promoting myself around DA and facebook. It's hard to get even one sub and i started to gain small fans (like 2-4) now this last few days a few people have told me they were fans on my college.

It's hard to gain subs when you're a gaming channel honestly :/ that's what I learn so far

I think for most starting new gaming channels, the only way to get yourself (fast) out there is to get a shout out from a big youtuber or getting really lucky with something<<<especially this.

Your videos are way too long, that's the basic rule for everyone starting out.

Yeah, I definitely found that the shorter videos with not too many "parts" to them tend to get alot more coverage.

And another tip like ShenShen said, PROMOTE yourself!, Advertise, Advertise, Advertise! Make yourself a Facebook fan page, share it with all your friends, or a Twitter anything you can think that might get your channel some interest, spread it around all your friends and be sure to post regular content, but not too regular (more than 1 a day I'd say or people will lose interest as they can't keep up!). Just do your best at getting the word around :) and it will grow, they always do.
Also, have you ever heard of Box for Boxing? thats another technique promoted by some of the highly subbed users such as Athene.
If you don't know what it is, I have a thread explaining it :)

If anyone with similar content (gaming related) would like to "box for box" with me, just let me know and I'll put you in my "Featured channels" so all my potential subs with see you :D

Hope this helps.

That's one of the problems I've been having, but i'm slowly finding solutions to it, with Spelunky i've shortened the videos down to a single good run (so about 8-12 mins) and the newest LP i'm starting today I've tried to keep them all around 15 mins a piece. That seems like good sizable chunks for now. The Spelunky videos I should've shortened, but things like League are full matches, and those end up pretty long :/

I've liked the idea of Box 4 box, just haven't found anybody to do it with just yet, I've offered on similar gaming forums, but most of the people end up just not boxing anybody, and just try to poorly scam a few views off of you, which is lame, but i'll keep looking.

Twitter has actually been fairly kind to me, i've gotten chances to talk (albeit shortly) with major people and they've been giving a few helpful tips, which have definitely helped me out.

Starting out is very tough, being on YouTube for around 3 years now and having a somewhat successful channel now tends to make you forget just how hard it was.

If you stick with your channel and push out new content (preferably something people search for on youtube) and learn from every video it is likely to pay off in the end. Of course there is no guarantee and you definitely need a lot of patience.

If you would like to box for box with me, i'd be more than happy to put you on my "Featured" list if you'd do the same for me!
Heres to Growth, for us Both! :D
