How hard was it to get going?

I hit the 5k subscriber mark about 7-8 months into making videos! It was such an amazing feeling and I remember this overwhelming sense of accomplishment!

You will get there, just give it time! If you have faith in your content and keep consistent, people will recognize it :)
 
If your goal is to outdo your previous video with your newest one, you are on the right path. I have not "taken off" yet, 4 months with 103 subscribers. I am happy with my fanbase, and I have noticed a slight acceleration in subscriber growth my pushing my abilities and making better videos.
 
I'm only a month in myself and it really is all about advertising... I haven't had time to promote my channel and you can definitely tell by the slow growth. Making the videos is fun, so that's what I focus more on :)

I don't get how some people get a couple hundred subs in the course of two months. I can't even get that many people to watch my videos! I don't have much time for advertising either but even if I did I wouldn't wanna shamelessly leave comments on other videos or message people.
How do some people do it...

I don't advertise by shamelessly leaving comments on other peoples' videos lol if that's what you thought I meant... I advertise by talking to people on omegle and getting them interested, I use twitter, etc etc. People will watch your videos if they like the content. You can't get a beauty guru to love gaming if that's not what they're into.

People just have to like you.
 
I got 14K subs in my first year of uploading videos, had the channel since 2008, but only started uploading videos in 2012, now currently at almost 15K. The key for me was to engage with my viewers, they now have a platform they can come to and ask their questions about producing music, or even get feedback on their own music. That really got the ball rolling.
