Hey, so one thing that I have realized is that my channel grew much more when I uploaded videos ranting about controversial issues (in terms of subscribers and views) as opposed to my rather old random format of talking about anything (aka, "typical youtubers")

So I'd like to ask you guys here on YTTalk, is it better to focus on a certain type of content (ie; in my case, mocking and ranting on Social Justice Warriors and other Crazy People) or a more typical teenage vlogger format (ie; challenges, talk about the same guy/girl topics)

Also, how do those channels that just do Challenges and guy/girl topics and whatnot (ie; Gabe Helmy, Josh Tryhane, Joe Sugg, etc.) even find an audience/grow when a lot of those topics have been covered by every other Youtuber already? Legit curious question.

And do you think doing a mix of both could work?

I think a good mix of both is alright. Every video on the exact same topic can get boring, I try to find a "broad niche" if that makes sense. Just make sure you can create new content, or it's a niche that has a very active community that way you always have new content you can potentially talk about/create.

I'd lean more to a focused side of it. Just by that, I mean people came to your channel for one thing that they enjoy watching if you went off to do other things and you don't do that one thing but only so often you might loose out on those subscribers & views. But it what makes you happy in the end I'm a new channel so I'm still trying to figure out what exactly I want to be doing with how my channel is so far I read stories mainly is what I've been doing but started with reading funny fails but overall I'm sticking to "reading" things in general.

I started out kind of focused but turned it in to a mix of both.
It just got more mixed when I started to create my videos and if gives me more room to a lot of different videos.
But I´m not sure what is the best way to do it

I'm about to start my first experiment actually. I usually upload gaming videos, but soon I will start uploading some amusing "shorts" to see how they do. Why not? Of course I would never phase away from gaming, so i chose

A Mix of both

I feel like focussing on a main niche works really well, if you throw in the occasional other kind of video :) I think the Niche is important for your main subscribers, but to gain more subscribers you'll want to do other stuff as well I guess.

Yeah, I guess perhaps having consistent rants (which seem to be my most viewed) mixed in with some other stuff like challenges/skits/street interviews would work nice.

Perhaps running my channel like a Late Night Talk Show? Have a main focus (ie; Rants) but still bring in other segments (often more light hearted fun)

Would trying to run it like a late night talk show in that regard be a good approach?
