Hardest sub stage to get through?

Getting past 1700 was the hardest for me - it's an odd number, but I was stuck there for months until I got to around 4300 (then peeps died off and I deleted the videos). In general, I'd say getting from 5000-10000 is the hardest, as the 5 digits seems to mean a lot.

My climb to 300 was paaaainfully slow. I was stuck on 286 for AGES. Then, my climb to 400 was even slower I do believe. I've been on Youtube for 2 years, and have 421 subs.

From my experience, the first 100 were the worst. After that a steady stream started to come in and it felt like the next 10000 was the hard number. But definitly the first 100... I remember every day getting excited if I got a single sub from a forum post, or a twitter push or something.

Sitting at 78 myself right now and ya the first 100 are hard but honestly I've been slacking off a lot and if I put more effort in I would prob already be at 100 :P.

I think it's different for a lot of people but my first 200 were crazy slow, after that it grew exponentially.

The first 100, by far. As others have said, people look at numbers as a sign of quality (whether it's true or not), and the more subs you already have the easier it is for someone to decide to click that button..."Lots of other people like this channel - I probably will too"
Once you hit 100 it does get slightly easier, but it's often a slow climb to the next milestones and the building of momentum.
