facecam? is it needed?

I think the desirability of a facecam is directly related to the type of content you are making. Especially when your personality is a big part of the content you are making, you may want to consider a facecam because your face expresses a lot of your personality. In general I think it benefits view times because people are more easily captivated by someone speaking to them. It's no coincidence that you see a lot of talking-heads on TV. On the other hand there are lots of channel who successfully engage their audience without a facecam.

Also, hate to bring up a superficial point but looks matter when using a facecam.
 
I don't think that it's necessarily needed for gaming channels, because I watch and enjoy a lot of videos from gaming channels that do not have facecam. However, I do think that seeing someone's face can foster a relationship that can make the viewer more connected with you.
 
Personally I don't do face cams but, I don't mind watching people with face cams. It adds a sense of variety to channels. It also might come down to your content but, usually it's personal preference like everybody here is saying.
 
I'm not sure if this is universal, but I see much greater viewer numbers when I'm using a face cam. Also once viewers had seen a face cam they often asked why it isn't on if I don't have it. I saw this on two channels I'm part of, but again there is no real evidence that it was the face cam leading to higher views.
