Do you use custom thumbnails?

Just started using them myself, never really gave them much thought. Just wondering how many of you use them and if so do you find a rise in views?

Don't know....

Having custom thumbnails gives you better looking thumbnails.
Having in-video thumbnails gives the Youtube visitor a feel it's a genuine shot from the video

Let put it this way: It did hurt my momentum when I decide to choose switching to custom thumbnails

In my opinion custom thumbnails are a must! You need to stand out in search results and build a strong brand. Also they are definitely more appealing to click if they are well made.
Totally agreed!! I customized all the thumbnail ( Not saying they are the best but I tried) Every bit you can do to stand out from the crowd helps!! Also I believe it shows the viewers that you care!

It works for me. I uploaded a video without a custom thumbnail, then put a custom thumbnail on it at the same time the next day. It got views much faster with the custom thumbnail. It also helps your video look more professional.

Have ben using them since I started uploading gaming videos :) It gives the videos a nice view and people tend to click on them out of curiosity :)

I just grab a screen-grab and boom, there it is. I want to choose my own, and add the title of the video to it. The ones that YouTube picks are mostly horrible. But I have had it where it almost seemed someone at YouTube hand picked the screenshot because it was perfect in every way (well, save for the title thing).

Custom thumbs are an absolute must. They don't have to look like they were handpainted by Vincent Van Gogh, but gosh dang it, show SOME minimal effort. Simply finding a good frame and adding text is acceptable.
