Discussing how much you earn......

Why is it against Adsense TOS to tell others how much you earn from your YouTube revenue etc?
Just wondering......

But in the workplace, its not written into your contact that you cant tell anyone else what you earn. That choice is left to the employee, although most do tend to keep such information to themselves etc.
Whereas with Adsense, its actually part of their TOS - was just wondering why they are so strict on it, rather then not giving users the freedom to decide for themselves........

Exactly what Frankie said! And there are a lot of variables, different ads can pay different amounts, and it can also depend on whether your viewers click the invideo ad or skip the ads before your video.

Actually it is. It's been in every workplace contract I've ever had.

Also, to be totally fair, it's nobody's business what another person earns unless it directly affects you negatively somehow.
 
The only reasons I can really think of are of like mindfulness and all that. One person with some amount of views per month might make considerably more than someone else than someone with the same amount of views, and it might be sorta discouraging for the second fella.

Well it is part of why it isn't discussed. Too much opinion on self worth is put on what a person has in the bank, so many choose not to discuss it. If they're too rich they're automatically hated by poorer people, and if they're too poor they feel ashamed.

Yeah I worked in law firms pretty much from the age of 16+ and it's always been in the contract in some way, shape or form!
 
You guys are looking at this from the wrong side. If advertisers know how much creators are getting they can figure out how much their competition is paying Google for the ad space which weakens Google when negotiating with advertisers.

That differs a lot from country to country. In Germany employers often have it in their contracts but it's not legal. So you can talk about what you're earning without breaching your contract and there is nothing they can do about it. At least not in legal ways. They just rely on employees not knowing about this. (And most of the time it works.)
