The Scarlett SOLO has 1 XLR input and has 2 Analogue outputs (left and right). I'm guessing this is what you mean?

Considering most DAC's output to Analogue. If you wanted to output to 1/4 jacks you would need the Scarlett 2i2 or one of the other units that have been posted in this thread.

Hm, Ok thanks! Just as a question, do you recommend any other AMP/DAC USB?

Personally I've only used the Scarlett so I can't really comment on them. I've used AUX to analogue cables and I'm currently using an AUX to stereo XLR (male) cable to connect my iMac to my Studio monitor speakers and just using the cable seems to work fine. But yeah. I've only used these cables and the scarlett so I can't comment on any others.

Ok, Thanks! Wish I had the money to get the Massdrop deal. $120 Though I might go for a deal on ebay.
 
I use the Scarlett Solo both for recording and for my Sennheiser HD650s just for listening to music. It's stellar at both, especially for $100.
 
Well yes, there's a DAC in the Solo, just like any audio device. It's a pretty good one, as well. Remember what a DAC is. It's a "digital to analog converter", meaning it takes a digital signal and makes it so an analog device (such as headphones) can use it. Literally, if it has a headphone jack, it's got a DAC in it. Every mp3 player, smartphone, and laptop has a DAC in there, otherwise your analog headphones wouldn't be able to make sound.

So, quite literally, there is no such thing as an audio interface that is not also a DAC.[DOUBLEPOST=1423517940,1423517627][/DOUBLEPOST]

ALL DAC's output to analog. That's LITERALLY what the name "DAC" means. Digital to analog. It has nothing to do with the output jack, whether it's 1/8", 1/4", or RCA, it's just signal processing. For that matter you can stick an adapter from 1/8 to 1/4 (or the other way around) and it makes no difference to the sound.

Haha, didn't mean to sound like a jerk there, it's more like I see people telling others on audio forums how they need an amp and a DAC for their headphones and I think it results in situations like this where people know they've been told they "need" certain things, but don't really have a grip on WHAT all that hardware is or what it does.

Literally all audio is [digital source -> DAC -> amplification -> output]. Most of the time, all that happens right in your computer or in your phone. People make big dedicated devices for each part, but remember that you're not adding a DAC or an amp where you didn't have one before. It's more like you're circumventing it and using the external device.
