Am I YouTube "Famous"?

I'm curious what you guys consider YouTube "famous". At 100k subs, when I tell people about my channel it's not uncommon for them to say something like "whoa you're famous" or "whoa you're like a celebrity!" The reality is, I've never been recognized in public, when I comment on videos most people have no idea who I am (unless they look at my profile), and it's not like everything I do is automatically popular.

This type of pseudo-fame is something I find interesting. People will almost instantly react and change the way they act towards me when I tell them how many subs I have, even though YouTube has basically no effect on my day-to-day life. On a side note, I rarely tell people about my YouTube channel without inquiry. You might think it tempting to brag about such an achievement, but to be honest it's a bit tiring to try and explain my channel in any meaningful way. ("Well you see I make these tech videos, but they look real, but they're not. Get it? Guess you have to see it.") I guess it's what I call a "one-way fame": You're not famous until you tell someone you are.... Then they believe it. But maybe that's all some people want?

I hope I can give you a bit of a new perspective. Having a load of subs is not the same as being a AAA+ pop artist or something. It's more of being a ZZZ list celebrity that you're lucky to ever be noticed.
I don't really consider you famous to be honest, I've never felt any kind of like... intimidation by your success or anything. But I've kind of always been like that, like if I meet someone who has little to no success but their content just clicks with me and I admire it for what it IS to the point I'm a FAN of it, then I'm gonna treat them like they're famous no matter who knows about them. On the other hand if it's not the type of content that really appeals to me, you can be at your size and I'm just kind of like "oh hey dude sup"

I think that you're truly famous when you cross over to the realm of having real influence. Like when it goes beyond youtube. Like, Toby Turner has done vlogs with famous people and made stuff for nickelodeon etc, to me that's fully famous, so I kind of see it as having less to do with sub/view count and more like... "has someone of powerful influence noticed your work and tried to network with you"

But it's all subjective, I wouldn't say there's any true answer.

When people hear that 100,000 people look at your videos and watch you every time you upload something its kind of like telling them your on a tv show. People get hyper when they know someone is known for something by someone else. If I had a friend who got paid to do something that people watch I would think that he means alot to someone which I guess that would make it feel like he is a celebrity? But yeah I understand someone with a million subs to get noticed, but not 100k

I don't really think about youtubers as being famous until around 2 million subscribers, this is normally the point where they're noticed everywhere.

100k subscribers is a great achievement but I see where you're coming from about not bragging... I probably wouldn't either unless someone actually asked if I done something like YouTube. Or if I actually made a living off YouTube I might tell people about it as works normally a big topic of conversation.

P.S. I find your videos so funny! :') the comments section is often quite interesting as well.
