You don't need to be popular to start a Twitter account, there are people from my middle school who made a Twitter profile and they didn't even have a YouTube channel or just didn't make videos

Do it asap, so you get the ball rolling on twitter too. Doesn't matter if it's inactive, but at least you have it then.

Twitter is useless (for me) and I can't get that social media working. I don't like it at all and I think most smaller Youtubers experience the same. But at least I keep my account and maybe in the future I find a better way to use it.

I mean an extra one. Not my personal one, just one directly associated with my channel.

I'd set it up simultaneously.
It kinda goes hand in hand nowadays to have a twitter to go with your channel.
This gives you more opportunity to communicate with sub's and to let them know what's going off with videos or if something has gone up IRL which could restrict you from uploading.

I started a Twitter account for my new YouTube cartoon channel and most of the subscribers have found me through Twitter. So far, it works.
