I've been noticing that squiggly writing at the top of my YouTube too. I've been very unwilling to click it though.

That "squiggly writing" is Japanese.

I'm no expert on written Asian languages, but it looks a lot closer to Mandarin than Japanese to me.

It looked to me like Kanji, which is one if the three lettering systems used in Japan, and has its roots from China. I could be wrong, but when I clicked on it and went to that channel, Chrome offered to translate the page from Japanese to English for me ...
