Youtube Resetting Monetization Status When Publishing Video

Yeah, I just tested by adding some random text at the end of a description on one of my old daily vlogs - video went unmonetized.

I know that I was able to upload public (which I do with my vlogs), and my most recent one is successfully monetized. I think that's the answer in the short-term. Just make sure all your metadata is populated ahead of time :-/

I hate uploading public with my main channel stuff though. Like to have all the annotations in place first :-(

Yeah that's what I was planing to try. Even though I hate is for the same reasons. (To be honest: shouldn't make that much of a difference for me, as I probably only get 1 or 2 views tops in the time being, but this is about principals, god dammit! *g*)

But don't you have to approve public videos now anyways since they started this emailing people thing? I thought I heard so. So you could at least annotate before going live. Still leaves you with the initial views unmonetized until the "first" review is through and you never know how long that might take...

Hm... Anyone heard anything about scheduled uploads having this problem?

I'm *guessing* that you could theoretically make as many changes as you like, so long as monetizing is the final one. So possibly upload private, annotate, thumbnail, whatever. Then public. Then monetize. ...maybe.

Or schedule instead of going straight public and then monetize. As long as the system changing the video to public at the scheduled time doesn't trigger it also...

But did anyone from Google/YouTube comment on it? You don't know if they acknowledged it as long as they don't comment...

But more importantly:
I HAVE A WORKAROUND THAT SEEMS TO BE WORKING!

Looks like the bug is connected to the "Info and Settings" edit page.

DO NOT USE THE EDIT PAGE!

However:
You can go to the view page of your video and edit it there. You can edit the title this way, you edit the description, you can also edit the privacy setting.

To edit the privacy setting simply choose to edit the description and a dropbox with the privacy setting will appear under the description.[DOUBLEPOST=1370847636,1370847505][/DOUBLEPOST]Only thing you can't edit through here are the tags.[DOUBLEPOST=1370902400][/DOUBLEPOST]Okay so I found workarounds for editing the title, description, tags and privacy settings, so everything but the custom thumbnail without un-monetizing. I've made a short tutorial what to do and what to avoid to not get hit by that bug. Haven't found a fix to bring back monetization on videos already affected, though.

Technically this kinda could be considered promotion, but I want to prevent as many people as possible from running into this bug, so please feel free to share...

 
After 2 days I got form letter response from google saying that engineers are aware of the problem and fixing the status. So, that's 2 days it was offline. Even though google are making tens of thousands of dollars off my channel it still takes 2 days for me to get a response from them.
