YouTube Removing Views To Increase Ad Prices

ConnersCraft

I Make Video Games... :)
So a few different large channels have uploaded videos recently claiming that with every YouTube update, they have implemented new ways to lower view counts on some channels. They supposedly do this to lower the supply of views and therefore raise the demand and the price to advertise on YouTube would go up. Also, it would make YouTube's CTR closer to that of the competitors. I have no idea if this is true, but it is a crazy business idea if they are doing it or not. I believe it was AtheneWins who first uploaded a video stating this theory. What are your opinions on it? Do you think this is true, and if it is does this bother you?

Edit: Here is the video Athene made, and he does make some very good points and show some good evidence.

I cant take anything that guy says seriously, sorry...but yea i have seen those complaints
I find him a bit hard to believe as well, but I have seen multitudes of other large channels claiming the same thing, and it is ridiculous how one day his average views per video cut in half...

Going through his older videos, it's quite shocking how quickly his views dropped.. it does seem a bit fishy, so I do see his reasoning for wanting to research it a bit more.

Tbh with you, the other day when I did start using AdWords, I kind of thought to myself that I wouldn't need AdWords at all if YouTube didn't continually advertise bigger channels. While I'm not forced to use it, it seems like not helping the smaller channels results in having to find a few other means of exposure, Google AdWords being 1 of them. So if this new view drop thing is to increase price of ads, then I doubt it's a theory. YouTube will probably shrug it off and say it's a conspiracy and try to make it look like it's to benefit us, just like forcing Google+ and Gmail on everyone was for our benefit, when it's really just for them lol At the sametime I think authentic views can clean up YouTube a bit.

It doesnt really matter though, its just a number, if you have a following, it doesnt affect you at all.

You can only blame a third party to an extent, after a while you should stop blaming others and either work around any changes or deal with it first hand and improve your content. Audiences die so quickly nowadays, people move around so much on YouTube.

Also, look at his most viewed videos, these kind of ones do nothing but gather views and dead subscribers:

http://www.tubefilter.com/2014/02/04/youtube-audit-view-counts/ And of course it's a good thing for everyone if they make it harder to get a head start by buying views. That's so common these days that I've seen people talk about how they got they're video viral by buying the first couple of million views at marketing summits in front of YouTube employees... And higher rpms for legit views doesn't sound like it would hurt creators either...
