Youtube is dumb.

2 years ago I stopped playing competitive Dota just because my friends told me it was dumb . That I was spending way too much time infront of a computer . It was true , I used to practice 6-8 hours per day . To addition to that , my teammates were all north american . That meant living during the night and sleeping during the day . I was living really unhealthy and I used to go out only during the weekends . I was living with my now ex-girlfriend and due to my sleeping schedules I saw her maybe 3 hours per day . I quit playing competitive Dota and today it's one of my biggest regrets .
Today I might be practicing for the International . The biggest e-sports event ever . 4 of my former teammates are going to attend this tournament and they are going to compete for $10M ( still raising ) .
I'm not saying I would win the tournament but I would be a part of it ( Obviously I would win it . I'm the best . But that's another story . )

The point is , don't let others tell you what is dumb and what is not ( Unless you are smoking crack . In that case you might wanna stop . ) . Today I'm regretting my decision and there's no way for me to resume my competitive gaming career .

You should never live your life for someone else. Do what you love with what you have and always be hungry for more. And don't worry, there are thousands of people just like you who don't think it's dumb

I don't do daily vlogs, just weekly opinionated rants. My husband is the only one who really knows about it or is impacted by it, and he frowns upon the entire thing. However, he softened his stance as my monetary gains continue to increase. (:

Sometimes it helps them understand it by explaining that you like to vlog the same way people like to write in their journal to remember stuff.

Don't take that to heart. If it's something you REALLY want to do, don't let people around discourage you from doing it. And this doesn't just apply to video making, but anything that you want to do as a career in a whole. People are going to mock you for what you want to do, but realize you're not the only one.

Just keep on with what you're doing if you enjoy it, no matter the discouraging remarks you get.

Your friends and family may mock you but you will not find that here. We all understand what it's like to pull a camera out in public and talk to it. Remember, this is for you. Make the memories you film good and happy ones. And if they mock you again, ask them what are they passionate about? Ask them how it feels when someone makes fun of their passion or doesn't understand it? Have fun doing what you're doing and keep being you.

All of my friends and family are supportive and think it's a cool hobby. I'm sorry you could not get so lucky. I recommend a new group of friends or giving them a taste of their own medicine.

So lately I've been struggling with feeling discourage because of hate.

Not hate on my channel, but hate in real life. Like, people around me and people close to me have been consistently telling me that it's weird or dumb to make youtube videos, especially daily vlogs.

I have my camera out all the time, filming a lot of my day, and my friends and some of my family like to mock me, ask what the point even is, and tell me that I look stupid or crazy. Especially if we're out in public.

It's definitely hard enough to get up the courage to make videos but it's even harder when I'm constantly getting told that it's dumb! I've tried to explain that I just really like the idea of recording my life for a period of time, and it'll definitely be something that I'll enjoy when I can look back on it and see all the memories.
I don't force anyone to be on camera but myself, and while I do have some supportive friends, it's those negative comments that seem to stick. I don't monetize my content and so I guess it's hard for some people to understand just doing something for fun (?)

Anyways, do any of you guys have to deal with people in your life being so negative and not really "getting" youtube? How do you deal with it?

when i first started making videos about 95% of the people around told me it was gonna fail and that there was no point and that it was dumb. and these are people i considered to be my friends. the minute my channel got shouted out by smosh and swoozie and my subscriber base started growing pretty fast those same freaking aholes were the first to tell me how much they always supported my content and that im amazing and all their friends watch me. its super hard to continue what your doing when people who's opinions you usually value are telling you that what your doing is stupid. but u have to understand the reason they are telling you this is because they dont have the courage to follow their dreams and if u have the nerve to achieve your dreams then you are proving to them that your better then them. no way in hell someone is gonna let you get away with that. good luck in your online endeavers :)

I had a fear of that. I recently started watching funforlouis and that inspired me to try my hand at vlogging my "exciting" life and while it is nerve wrecking to even record in public, it's worse if people you trust start questioning it. I can't completely relate but I would just say don't listen to them. If you love it, keep doing it and eventually they'll stop. Maybe they're just not used to it?
