Before I state my opinion. please note that 1). This post will be a reader so it will be kinda long, and 2). this is all that it is an opinion. I'm not here to bash on anyone who maybe looking into getting into YT gaming site. Everyone has the right to say their piece and make their choices, so please again I state this is only my opinion and my opinion may change over time.
So before anyone calls me pessimistic or close minded please note I actually went into this site with an open mind. After spending a few hours on this site and having some help along the way I honestly feel like this site is pushing bigger channels up while stepping on the smaller channels.
First I wanna talk about the positives:
Pos #1). Innovation -This site from first hand look/impressions has some potential to take streaming to the next level. You can search for games and find different creators on the web as well as check some of their other content out on their channel. The site looks overall like YouTube 2.0 which is something that many have wanted for a while.
Pos #2) Interaction - I've stopped by a few of Live streams and interacted. First hand the timing in response is spot on, It is not a 15 -45 sec wait for people or the streamer to interact with you unlike twitch. Its also nice that you receive alerts when someone that you follow/sub to goes live. So you will always have that reminder when someone is about to grind you can pull up front row to talk to said streamer or chat. (which ever you please.
Pos # 3). Live videos- Nice to see a stream actually going on when you first open the site. Not much to say on this point but it is a fine opener when you launch the site and browse instead of just scrolling and searching through dead silence.
Pos # 4). The Basics So this was a mixed point among many people i discussed this with. Some people say that they dont think its like YouTube, where the setting navigation is like in your phone, but I think that this is and it kinda helped out in my navigation because it gave a good familiarity like the YT app that I use on my phone. I definitely give points for familiarity and helping not get some completely lost in the navigation.
Pos # 5). Creators of Similar interests Its nice to see there are some big channels out there with similar interests. After you search for an artist say like if you're into Call of Duty and you look for "TheMarkOfJ" you can find other rushing gameplay creators. However key word here is "Big channels"
And this is where I move into the negatives
Neg #1). Only promoting BIG number channels This is the most obvious. If you search for a gaming channel you're bound to run into thousands of other channels that are in the million-hundred thousand range. You will spend a good amount of time searching for a specific channel going through thousands of others. And if you have a channel that is say 500 subs, likelihood of you being discovered is very slim.
Neg # 2). ERRORS I ran into a lot of this when I first tried to make an account. From when I put in basic information of syncing my channel, to trying to search for other channels I constantly get that Annoying "Error 404". After moments of tampering I just went ahead and deleted that account and made a new one not linked with google + and it worked a lot better.
Neg # 3). Channels with more than one game I understand this site is targeted for mainly people with one game channels or gaming lets play channels. However what about channels that are alternative gaming channels? Like say people who do podcasts, or gaming news?
Neg # 4).Algorithms - The search algorithms are a complete and utter mess. I am constantly being suggested minecraft videos. At one point I searched for GTAV content I saw some hip hop vids (what does this have to do with gaming??)
Neg # 5) Content ID - No music can be played during streams or else you will get a strike or a match. You also run the risk of your stream being taken down. This could be bad for streamers who let viewers suggest music for their interaction.
Neg # 6). Personal Organization I cannot make my channel the way I would want it I am stuck with the customs handed to me. Is there a way to fix this? If so please inform me.
Neg # 7). Donations? Is there a way for streamers to set up donations? Just a question.
Overall I feel as if this site is mainly tailored toward gamers who have already been established where it is leaving the up in coming content creators to struggle to even become relevant.
I can see what they wanted to do when creating this site but I kinda wish they would make it user friendly for EVERYONE.
Again this is all an opinion and I do not mean to come off as surly, negative or just plain rude, but again I do have the right to change my opinion depending on the moves this site makes. People are more than welcome to disagree with me and I am welcome to criticism. This is a discussion but those are my two cents. If you took time to actually read this long post Salute.
Final thought: YouTube gaming is a great idea but is poorly executed.
