YouTube gaining advertisers

Not exactly sure if this is related, but I saw quite a few youtube channel commercials last night while watching The Walking Dead. I don't watch TV that often, but to see youtube being on there is surprising. Even though the channels were different the layout of the commercials were the same.

I've been seeing that as well on TV, the same commercials on TV played as preroll on youtube videos. Further blurring the line between TV and YT.

It's nice to read that YouTube's efforts to attract new advertisers are paying off.

I thought this was interesting:

"This year, YouTube did something that was quite brilliant yet humble at the same time," he continued. "They showed up at the video upfronts. And instead of selling the digital way, they started selling the TV way. Lo and behold, they started earning TV ad dollars. They’ve changed their language, and it’s going to work for them.

It looks like the new YouTube CEO with her vast experience in advertising is starting to pay dividends. :)

In Los Angeles, on DirecTV, we had YouTube ads promoting Video Game High School and SciShow.

With the previous ads with Michelle Phan, Bethany Mota and others, YouTube is basically saying, "OK, we'll play in your playground (TV), now come play in ours".

Mota is now appearing on Dancing With The Stars in the USA. My wife says she is doing well. The show isn't on my radar :mstickle:

That's great news. It's high time advertisers started thinking of YouTube as part of their strategy alongside (and in some ways, superior to) television. Take @markkaz and Racegrooves for instance! There are lots of television shows that can't bring in 15 million viewers a month, and those TV shows sure as heck can't do it with a staff of one person and a relatively small budget! YouTube can bring lots of eyes to a screen, and more targeted audiences as well.

It's very encouraging for us newbies to see that YouTube is still strong and relevant. I hope the space doesn't do anything but gain more exposure (and more advertisers!)
