How do you feel about you performance with your computer that you built yourself was it good if not was it your fault. I am going to build my own any advise.

My laptop was working very well until this stupid windows 8 automatically updated it to 8.1!
Now I can't shut down, I need to press SHIFT and then CLICK SHUTDOWN so that it is properly SHUT DOWN! UHH!

Mine is okay, can play league of legends at very high at around 40 fps. Built it myself last year, on a very tight budget. I think it was around £250-£300.
Takes about an hour to render a video at 1080p.
Specs:
AMD-A6-6400K APU
4 GB RAM One year on, I still haven't installed my second 4GB ram stick!)
1 TB HDD (Not sure what brand).
Motherboard: GA-F2A75M-HD2

I partially built mine (it was a slow low performing PC when I bought it and I took out it's insides, replaced and added new parts to make it the lovely video editing and gaming PC I have today) I'd say I'm quite happy with it, I don't really have any complaints 
Perhaps I might upgrade the RAM in the future but it does everything I need it to do.
As a word of advice, if you are on a budget build, be sure to set your priorities in what you need the most (if it's a gaming PC it would be good to prioritize GPU and CPU etc). I strongly recommend an SSD if you want a speedy boot up and load time for programs. They are more expensive but it certainly pays for the speed benefits. Last of all be sure to check all of your components are compatible before you go out to get all the parts, such as CPU sockets for motherboards, power supplies and graphics cards etc

I build my own. I have some interesting requirements and I like the reliability of good brands (e.g. Asus being one of them). My computers are all rack mounted.
Building them is not as hard as you think. It's fairly easy provided all your components are compatible. I think the hardest part is installing the CPU heatsink. It isn't hard, but out all the tasks involved it's the most difficult. It involves putting the correct amount of thermal paste.
