Your Backup Solution?

Hey AlfieVlogs, no worries bud always happy to help :)
But it's always a good idea to have a backup just incase your PC fails which will mean you will most likely lose your Vlogs.
Check out some external HD as they are a good starting point bud :)

my external HDD is a Fujitsu Siemens 500GB. I don't recomand it, had some problems with it.

lols you should check out some Western Digital HDs they are great. I have 6 HDs from them all work perfectly fine and I've had 2 of them for over 4 years not a problem at all.

Nice, and it's funny because I've been kinda using YouTube as a backup haha. I upload videos that I want to keep backed up as private haha. Also, regarding hard drives, I'm about to buy a few so I can back my things up (videos, pictures + all important files) more than once in case one of the hard drives fails (like my last one did). What brands (and/or models) would you recommend because I want something reliable. I also prefer reliability over speed, however want a hard drive that can read and write on mac and windows. Sorry for the questions, you just seem to have your head wrapped around this sort of stuff so I thought I'd see if you had any suggestions :)[DOUBLEPOST=1378481926,1378481808][/DOUBLEPOST]Also, I went to this thing about a month ago and asked Devin Graham (Devinsupertramp) how much of his videos he archives after releasing the video, and he says he backs everything up (mainly because companies often come to him asking for footage from it to use for ads etc.), and he now has like over 100TB of storage backed up. He said he spent a lot of his YouTube money on the storage, but he's just recently been sponsored by a storage company or something so he's super happy :)

Hey HiJoshua, bud how are you doing? Its not a problem ofcourse you can ask questions I'll be happy to help out.
Let me ask you first what's your budget bud?

Uh, really haven't got too much of a budget, but it'd be good to get about $100-150 for 1TB or anything upwards that is decent but probably don't want to spend more than $250 for whatever size, although depends on what the solution is, as I may lash out on something if it would prove to be a reliable long term solution. Ideally, though, I think I'm looking for maybe two drives that are 1 or 2TB and back up stuff there long term as well as daily things like transferring video files between computers.[DOUBLEPOST=1378482414,1378482372][/DOUBLEPOST]But I'm looking to spend more on something that I know won't fail on me[DOUBLEPOST=1378482431][/DOUBLEPOST]But yes what I'm looking for is a portable external hard drive[DOUBLEPOST=1378482452][/DOUBLEPOST]Although, I'm open to other options if they would be more reliable and/or cost effective[DOUBLEPOST=1378482502][/DOUBLEPOST]I just need to have at least one portable hard drive for everyday stuff and for uni (I'm currently doing a film degree, which means many large files :1)[DOUBLEPOST=1378482684][/DOUBLEPOST]You can just give me general suggestions, like brands you think are the most reliable etc., I don't expect you to go out and research anything for me :) Just share what's in the brain of yours if you have any tips for me :)

Hey bud just before we continue on talking about the best backup solution for you. Can you please not double post as its quite difficult to read everything also it makes it less work for the moderators.
So you budget is around $100-$150. You should be able to get a decent HD with that. Give us a minute bud and I shall get back to you.

Oh, sorry, you mean how I posted like six posts just then and they merged? Sorrrrry, I just kept thinking of something to add after I'd posted it. In future, should I just edit the previous post? Or not make it a double post? (not sure how to do that).

And sweet, thank you so much! Also, I live in Australia, but whatever you suggest I should be able to find it :)

Hey Styxie & PurpleGemini how are you doing? Its nice to hear from other members on what they use as a backup.
Lols both of you use Dropbox but how do you manage to backup those large files as Dropbox is limited to storage space? Unless your only backing up "important files" but then again those "important files" must be large file sizes?

@Styxie, yea a lot of people tend to use external HDs as its more reliable than having an internal HD.
What storage have you got and brand bud?

I use Dropbox for the Premiere project and sometimes for short videos, the size of those when rendered can be pretty small.
For external, I use a LaCie 1TB. Really sexy brushed aluminium drive ^^

Yes bud because it's quite annoying for the moderators to keep on fixing the same problem. hehe it's cool my friend no need to apologise you didn't know and its good to see you're always thinking :)

Its really easy to edit your post. Can you see where it says "Report" on the left there should be a button "Edit". Simply click on that bud and your set remember to click "Save Changes" now you can edit as many times as you want without having to annoy the mods hehe :)

I'm just doing abit of research for you bud. Give us few minutes hope you don't mind.

Hey bud, the name of your external HD sounds sexy hehe. 1TB that's decent storage space if you only have small file sized videos. Do you also backup your files from Dropbox onto the External HD bud?
