You Tube Comments Rant

Okay now this is both a rant and a serious question. How the hell are you suppose to promote your channel through the youtube comments section??? Seriously it used to be that only the top 2 comments would show at the top and all the comments below that would be new comments that anybody can see. But not anymore! Now there are 2 completely different sections you have your top comments which are just the comments that get the most thumbs which as we all know are stupid a** generic comments such as "thumbs up if famous person sent you here" or "thumbs up for joke in video." And if you go into the New Comments section it doesn't even update regularly! I was just watching a smosh video and when i clicked on the new comments section it says that the last comment was posted 2 days ago! You and I both know that NO Smosh video goes anywhere near 2 days without a single comment!!! Okay thats the end of my rant, now if anybody knows how to navigate this stupidity that is the You Tube Comment section please feel free to let me know :D

Apparently, it goes by (I think) people in your circles, and people you're subscribed to, and people who comment most on their videos (their most active subscribers). For instance....I watched a video the other day with a ton of views ...it was a Bart Barker video and @KGATV was the top comment for me, with 9 upvotes. It was there every time I watched the video. He is in my circles (or I'm in his) and I'm subscribed to him. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that's how it goes.

You're Wrong

Comments are probably not the best place to promote videos. However, they are a good place to engage with the community.

Once enough comments get tacked onto a video, the uploader will tend not to notice/reply to comments; however, other commenters will. So, if you want to engage other commenters, try replying to their comments and form conversations. After enough weeks of forming conversations people will recognize thy name and perhaps come and visit.

Otherwise, YouTube is really not the best social media platform for actually gathering an audience (via comments, that is). Forums and Facebook are far superior for that because there people are more likely to get engaged.

People who advertise their content in other youtubers videos can be looked down upon.

It's like you're walking into a rival company, with the intent to poach their loyal customers. Of course this isn't always the case, but there are other ways to get yourself out there.

I have to agree, and now that they have deleted video responses as well has made it even harder (I think)

I would never consider try and promote your channel via comments f*ck that. You'll attract the wrong kind of attention and get shot with hate and dislikes!!

Although I don't fully understand the new system, I do know the new system exists to push more relevant and popular comments to the top. Probably to curb hateful or self promoting comments.
