Will the followers eventually come / How do you make money?

YTtalk Mad
Hi guys,

I want to start making videos on my channel to entertain people, funny videos / challenges, and maybe even vlogging when I can. As I think its something I really will enjoy. Would be a bonus if I could make money from it in years to come.

If I was to make a video, what is the best way to promote the video so people will find it? Do I just rely on it to be good and people find it through the tags?

2nd question. How do you make money through YouTube videos? Alot of the daily vloggers I watch seem to make a living off youtube, I see they have adverts on some of thier adverts, I presume thats how. But how did they get the adverts on there? Is it based on how many subcribers they have?

They use something called Google Adsense and they monetise their videos. Google puts ads on your videos and I'm not too sure but i think there is a rpm (rate per thousand views) which you get paid. I think once you reach 100 pounds they send you money though adsense. But don't monetise until you get about 5k views per month, just make videos for fun :)

Make videos for fun primarily. If it gets to the point where you are consistently getting a few thousand views per day, that's beer money if you do choose to monetise with adverts. I had no intention of monetising initially, and had qualms about ad sense advertising, but no one complained when I flicked the switch, and the people who do have an issue with adverts will just block them anyway. Tags are very important, and titles, descriptions, thumbnails can be important. Depending on the content there are many ways to promote. All the usual social media sites, facebook twitter etc. You'll likely want to be on all of them if things get more serious (people tend to stick to their favourite social media and that's it), I'm not at that point yet.

Vloggers and such often find their own sponsors to personally advertise in their videos, stuff like nature box does the rounds on many youtubers I watch. That and merchandise are probably the main source of many youtubers incomes, you need seriously high views to make a living from ad sense alone.

A lot of daily vloggers? There are gobs of them yes, but they still be the 1%. Ads are based on views and views alone. Subscriber count means nothing without views. With that being out there, I wouldn't concern myself with the money aspect of things. You will likely "fail" making any type of real money like the other 99%.

Just monetize your channel, and see were things end up. If you turn out to be something see the money roll in. If not, see it trickle in, cents at a time.

You already have some videos which got a nice amount of views. So you already know more than most Youtube on YTtalk.

About the money part, it's easy to set up monetization (earning money through ads), but in the beginning it's not really useful. Even if you're having thousand views a day, you earn some pennies, to buy yourself 2 Happy Meal at your local mac, monthly...

Making money is not really reliable unless you have like a million subscribers. Adsense is viable, but I would like to warn you it can be revoked in unpredictable ways. Do not click your own video's ads, and be careful about click bombing.

I'm not really fussed about making money at the moment.

I just want to start making videos and enjoying myself.

I'm just am worried the followers / subscribers won't come in.

I don't know if they will just come on their own. Or will I have to advertise a lot.

You'll never know until you try. I'd say just to start having fun and doing what you want to do, then figure out how to promote it from there.
