Why Gaming Content?

Same here.

Even though I may not have the advanced equipment and speedy internet most others have, I still do my best to make my videos professional, entertaining, and watchable. I put as many annotations and tags as I can, and make the description as good as it can get.

As I said in an earlier post, I make Pokemon gaming videos because I enjoy it, and I do my best in things I enjoy doing.

I use pretty advanced equipment. I have about 3 different capture softwares depending on what i'm trying to record. FRAPS works well with some stuff, not with others. Bandicam for general stuff and OBS for emulators because those games are longer and capture better on that.

Audacity to record and edit commentary after the video is recorded (at least 2-5 playthroughs before i pick my final I want for the video), and then use a Samson C01u condensor mic (about 100 bucks) to record commentary, edit everything in audacity to clean it up and make it sound pro, then edit it all. It takes quite a bit of time for a series. The longest part by far is messing with the video desc, tags, title, playlist, annotations, ect. just it's insane. People don't give gamers enough credit when they do it right.

It's funny how similar conversations end up with vloggers saying gaming content is easy, and gamers saying likewise. There's goods and bads on both sides of the fence, and both types of content is plenty on youtube for sure. In gaming there's underserved categories, I'm sure many professional vloggers would be able to categorize vlogs accordingly and argue there's something missing. But going back to the original question, for me I have two reasons.

-Document the progression and activities of the World of Warcraft guild I lead, for the members, recruits and anyone that may be curious about how others perform for a particular challenge.
-For guide videos provide a concise video, something that will tell you what you want to know without having to search for it inside the video, something I feel not well done most of the time. Instead of complaining, I made my own.

Those are my own reasons, and I'm sure many more others will contribute with what theirs may be.

Who cares, we youtubers are there to provide for the viewers who want to watch the content regardless of the "talent and hard work" put into the videos. So stop bitchin' and get back to making videos.

I think your first sentence was silly, "No offence" to the gaming channels but here's why you guys are stupid. Hahaha.

As a Let's Player, I can assure you that I do not just record and upload. The amount of time and effort I put into my videos is ridiculous. The sleepless nights as I pondered over ideas and practised intros, editing techniques ,design styles, vocal training and I've even almost totally removed a speech problem I've had since I was 8 JUST so I could make these videos to the best of my ability.

I don't even have 500 subscribers yet and I've almost spent $2000 on equipment, programs and games. But, I do this because I enjoy it. Is it profitable? f**k no. Is it something I can put on a resume? f**k no. But I'm having fun doing it, life is short and I'm going to spend a majority of it doing the things I love. Let's Playing just happens to be one of them.

this^ it pisses me off when people say no editing goes into gaming videos. It's just that people who put effort into gaming videos don't get the recognition they deserve

Because it's one of my hobbies . I can do it while I'm high and obviously I'm the best .
I'm like the Boyka of gaming . The most complete gamer in the world . Funny to say since we had the same injury and we both got it in a ring ( I wasn't fighting in a prison though ) .
I'd be decent at doing vlogs and what not because a lot of s**t happens in my life and I'm not camera shy .
The only problem is , who would watch a guy that's always high ?

Currently I have 2 options, look for work and do nothing but play games in my free time or look for work while doing something constructive in my free time and actually learn some skills that I want to learn, some of which can be used elsewhere in life or other careers/jobs. In terms of the over saturated market, my whole life has been about perseverance, since primary school all the way up until now. I realised that with the way I am and how things are in my situations; it wasn't going to change, I'd have to persevere much, much longer and after a day of considering YouTube I found out getting supporters wasn't anywhere near easy to come by, but if I'm going to work my a**e off and persevere through something, then I might as well choose something that's a very big part of my life and something that I've been passionate about for a very long time. And I've never been committed to anything in my entire life as much as I am to YouTube.[DOUBLEPOST=1399203467,1399202797][/DOUBLEPOST]
I don't even fully understand why so many people like to watch other people play video games.
Many gamers are unique in their own ways (personality wise) and with the way video games are going now days, it's reaching a point where playthroughs can be done differently, so some people might want to see how others did something, either a specific level, how they fought a specific boss, what options they chose in dialog and even see how they play the whole game. Others might not be able to afford a certain game but want to get a small taste of it. Some might just like the persons personality so much that they enjoy watching them play. I've got a mate who likes to watch me play games whenever we catch up sometimes, mainly because he plays poorly and likes to see how something should be done xD

My main channel is comedy because that's my biggest passion. However I'm also very invested in the gaming scene so I like to talk about games. I don't do Let's Plays or even really show any gameplay. I just talk about the industry. And no matter how much I try, my gaming channel is much more successful than my comedy channel at the moment.

That is one of the reasons I introduce the webcam in alot of my gaming videos, sometimes its for the reaction other times its for when i talk people can get to know me more... lol i dunno but I am growing more confident in doing it the more videos I make... I dont want to pretend to be a kid on youtube like pewdiepie even tho i think he is funny ... I couldnt be like that!

Hi!

For me, the question can be seen in 2 different aspects:

Why do other people do that?

First of all, everybody played, plays or will play video games. Before you would say no, think about it, think about the girl who plays on his iPhone, think about who invites you to play FarmVille, and now, you did get that everybody plays video games, so that actually means that the whole theme, Gaming has a really big possible audience, so if an average person, wants to try YouTube-ing, there is a big chance that he will do gaming, because great possible audience means => big audience for me, but that's not how you slice up the cake, so really little amount of people get the biggest slices, and thousands or hundred thousands people will get the smallest slices.
And as said upwards, this is the easiest to get into right? For an average person of course, they think you just sit down, press a button, play a game, say something while, press a button and upload it (and also ther are no special requirements, like you don't need a 2000$ equipment for it). Okay, so that's the reason probably, why there are so many gaming content on YouTube, but that is also the reason why it's damn hard to show something unique, and that is why it is unlikely to get big, or get profitable from gaming, and since it is "easy to do" there are a lot of "easy to do" videos on YouTube, since there some popular ones, which are popular because the reasons somebody said earlier. Because of that there many low-quality gaming-related video on YouTube, and the same reason, why it is hard to do it, but still because everybody plays games (okay playing games =/= gaming, but don't get really into that), it's still the most popular content type on YouTube and that is also why gaming-related videos are mainly underrated since there are lots of low-quality videos, and one thing left here, that who ARE popular from gaming, can be also popular, because as I said, everybody plays games, and since everybody plays them, they get into the same parts of games, and people just like to see how others react to that part of the game, becuase humans are curious.

And, why I personally do that?

For me, gaming is mostly part of my life since I was 5 or so, and I find the innovation in that part of IT, I can see the artistic part of gaming, since I think, as I said, games can be art. Just look at the graphics, the sound, the story, just like probably what were movies in their time, is games now, but I don't want to really get into this, so continuing the main part, it was part of my life, I just love to do it, and as everybody, I have my own opinion, and that is an opininon that I want to share with the world, because there are a lot of people who actually care about gaming (said in upper parts), and also there is always something in gaming that can show something new. These are introduced mainly by indie games, and some get their shine, but many don't, though they have their unique innovations, but they miss their shine, and I want to well "help" these games, by showing them to the gaming community, by my videos, and that is mainly why I do gaming related content, and also gaming is fun, and who doesn't like doing things what are fun? Sharing fun things is just a cherry on the top.

Thanks for reading!

Why are there so many gaming channels out there? I understand it’s easy to set up and to record but with YouTube filled with a large percentage of playthroughs and Lets Plays it’s a heavily saturated area and from what I’ve seen, incredibly hard to build a subscriber base.

I want to know what drives you to make gaming videos? Is it a passion, do you want to become the best Let Players out there or do you do it just for fun?

I think theres a lot of gaming channels mainly because a lot of people like games and some of those people love to share there experiences with others.:p as far as why someone would make more than one gaming video is
1. because of the people who support you by commenting and liking the video and
2. the fun of having a channel and seeing it grow.
True it is hard to grow a gaming channel now because there are so many already but who cares. If you like what your doing keep doing it!
;)
