Why does everyone use skype?

You can chat, video chat, screenshare, or just talk all on google hangouts. Why would you use all different programs, when you can use just one?

Skype works excellently for me and everyone I know, over half of them are frmo the US. Maybe it's just your internet?
Skype is my entire contact base, whenever I need to talk to another Youtube, like sivhd or dunkey or keyori or something then I just write to them. Or if I wanna talk to a pro player from LoL LCS.

There are skype groups for big Youtuber's, and it's generally a great way to stay in contact.
I would never use that hangout poop, there's not many people that use it, so when you meet someone you can't tell them "add me on google hangouts". All the people I wanna talk to are always on Skype, they would never be on hangouts

tl;dr skype > hangouts
very biased opinion, with some truth to it.

I work in the programming industry, everyone uses Google Hangouts in my industry. I suppose it differs for different industries. Personally, I have never heard of people using Skype. I sincerely thought it was dead and gone.
