Why do people put logos on their videos?

Super Poster
I've noticed that a lot of people put little logos in the top corner of their videos.. just like a little circle with initials or something. What's the motivation to do that? Branding? So people can't steal their content and claim it as their own?

A lot of things get ripped off of YouTube these days and get reuploaded to Facebook. In the least it helps people identify where the content is from. Naturally this kills the exposure on YouTube, so having an end graphic that includes the channel URL could attract traffic to your channel.

Thats exactly why, you named it. Besides branding is good cuz if you start expanding a lot thats how people will recognize you, either they see your logo in videos or some websites or merch.

I have one, it's normally a link to subscribe :) Called a watermark usually :) If you hover the mouse of it, it will show you how many subs and a link to sub

Or did I read the post wrong?

Logos are part of branding. They are also used to watermark videos to show ownership. Fans and potential fans will be able to recognize you when they see your logo. Have you watched a sports game and seen a league's logo on the screen throughout the entire game? It's pretty much the same as that.

If its in video programming they use that as a kind of branding and as a way for people to subscribe, many people consider it a watermark but it isnt as it isnt rendered into the video and is just an overlay. If its rendered into the video then it is usually a form of branding and protection so when and if someone does steal the video and upload it as their own or reuse it on TV for example they still receive some form of credit for the video.

Yeah, it's for branding. People see the logo, and associate it with you. An actual watermark keeps people from taking your videos, but if they do your logo is still there so people know who the original owner is. There's also the youtube watermark which is actually clickable to bring people to your channel.

I use it to remind people to subscribe.

A channel evaluator at the New York YouTube space (which is seriously awesome btw) suggested that I incorporate my watermark into my banner to reinforce the brand. I thought this was a great idea, and now I just have to remember what site I used to maker my banner, so I can edit it.

Spot on, however, youtube do call it a 'watermark' in the settings when you activate the feature, but like you said, its an overlay, like annotations.
