Why are some YouTube commenters so brutal???

I've done a 'video nasty' before - I slated a channel, but that was all I did - it wasn't a personal attack, it was a tirade against the personality of the channel (and what I thought it stood for).

Never wished anyone harm, or dead, in my 16 online years! (Oops, yes I have - animal poachers!) :P

*WARNING SARCASM AHEAD*
The YouTube comment section - a place to let out the days frustrations on unsuspecting people who you've never before interacted with.
According to universal guidelines if you don't tell someone to kill themself at least once a day, you're internet-ing wrong.

They're just bored and jealous. Positive or negative either way they're still moving you up youtubes lists.

...

I wish people would stop giving that lame "Jealous" excuse as a cop out on why XYZ doesn't like ABC or 123..

It's literally the worst comeback a channel can do on responding to negative or hateful feedback.

I agree.

It's like there's a unwritten law about not criticising something because of its popularity with others.

If there was a 'cliff-jumping to your doom craze' I'm sure people wouldn't mind us speaking out against it? If you think something is terrible then if you choose to speak out about it, then so be it. ;)

I dunno, so many people, especially on YouTube, get so defensive about popular channels and negative opinions thrown at them. It does come with the territory, as that old saying goes. If you have a trending channel, it gets rammed down the throat of most of us.

There's a certain gamer channel who's videos get suggested on practically every gamers right-hand video page - letting out frustrations once in a while is healthy and keeps some of us almost sane! ;)

Criticizing is not jealousy that not what I meant. For someone to comment something like: "I didn't like this video. The audio sucks lighting is bad and your delivery is annoying" is fine. These are things you can improve on. But when someone writes "FAAAAAAG this is the gayest vid I've ever seen. You should kill yourself faggot" that's them trying to hurt you on a personal level and is in no way criticism. If this is not jealousy then what is it?
