Which MacBook to get?

Go onto the Apple site, then click on Mac in the bar at the top. Then go to MacBook Pro. If you click "Buy now" it will bring up a list of models. The last in the list of the 15" ones has an NVIDIA GPU in it.
Ha that's the most expensive one! Can't afford that unfortunately.

So your saying if I don't get one with this chip then my videos will end up on YouTube all laggy?

Is there no way around this apart from spending a fortune [emoji17]

They won't end up on YouTube laggy. They will just be laggy as you edit them, probably. If you are only in iMovie there shouldn't be any problems, it is only the FCP needs a better spec machine realistically. Out of interest, why do you have your heart set on buying a mac? Why not a windows? They are cheaper and can be upgraded over time!

Well I have my heart on a mac as most videos I've watched with the editing of Final Cut Pro x are the style I'm looking for and you have to have a mac for FCPX. Like I want the effects to look really good and not tacky.

Here are some examples of the kind of editing and quality I'm looking for... It won't let me post links so if u search :

Lily Melrose sunglasses

And

Melonlady thankyou 2013

Is there a windows editing program that could do this effect?

Editing style is about how you choose to edit. Any of the big editing packages will allow you to create videos in any style you want. I would personally recommend Premiere Pro for editing. I and a lot of other youtubers use it to edit their videos and it also supports roundtripping to audio editing, vfx and colour grading packages too.

Also don't try and use an editing program for something that isn't its intended purpose. An editing program is for EDITING and very basic effects. All other effects should be done in a dedicated effects program like AfterEffects (or HitFilm if you go down the FCP route). I can't look up the videos now since I am busy, but I will later.

As I said, the kind of editing and quality are all about the skill of the user, not the package used. It is a common misconception that buying expensive software and equipment will make your videos look good however it is more about how you use the software.

Thanks for all your help.

I looked on the apple website again and looked at iMacs they seem way cheaper and with the specs I need,it's just I'm worried about room.

You have made me think of maybe looking at a windows laptop. It would be better to save money then I can put some towards a camera. Decisions decisions!

I would still recommend a Mac, simply because of its reliability. OS X is one of the most stable OS out there, and if something wents wrong, you can always restore a backup from time machine.
Buy an external HD, plug it in, you have to accept the pop-up, and time machine will auto-configure and auto-backup every hour, so you don't have to fear data-loss which is extremely useful when working with video material.
And I'm still using my upgraded (SSD and 8GB RAM) MBP from 2010 for editing, just rendering is a little bit slow, and my brother uses a MBP from 2012 (non-retina) which still works buttery smooth.
A Mac will pay off.
