When did you start getting exposure?

Hey everyone,

So as I've stated before, my channel is pretty new (about 2 weeks old) and I have 4 videos, ~80 views and 11 subscribers. My most viewed video has 40 views and is slowly going up in rankings. I have no problem with motivation since I just record doing what I love (drawing).

My question is, how long did it take you guys to get noticed? How many videos, how much time, etc?

I know it's a long process and you need to be consistent and considerate and I'm really interested in hearing you guys' stories.

Well, you're doing better than me, I've been going for 2 weeks and have 12 vids 50 views total and 3 subs.
Anyway, Getting expusure on YT is really about luck and timing. Timing can increase your chance of getting noticed but after all you have to appear on etiher search results or suggested videos on others vids to really start rolling.
Sometimes you just hit the spot and get thousands of views on a single video therefore getting some free subs or uoy work you a** off promoting and networking to maby get some exposure here and there.
Good luck with your channel and remember, if you aren't doing it for fun you might have a bad time ;)

There were a few large points of exposure for me throughout my time on YouTube. The first was when I released my video about how women should lift weights. It got some good traction from some external media sites and brought in the first boost of views and subscribers. After that, I got another hit, this time on Reddit, which was the biggest explosion on the channel up until recently. A solid 900 subscribers that day. The next big spike came when my video was shared on Lifehacker and Huffington Post. It was a video about alcohol. Wasn't a large spike like Reddit but it brought in a good amount of subscribers. And finally, just recently I had a huge 1500 boost of subscribers when I was featured on Lifehacker. This time my video was stickied to their front page! Throughout all these "explosions," my subscriber rate climbed up and up. Great experience so far and looking forward to the next explosion ;)

Good question. I revamped an animal shelter's YouTube channel a year ago. I've experienced small but consistent growth, but have not had anyone notice us yet. Views come from me promoting and analytics show my videos are only suggested by other videos from my channel. Hopefully the "big break" will come.

for me personally it took a LONG time :)
if you make your video's very share-able that would be perfect. maybe try some fun one offs in future, like trying to draw something from memory, or drawing something that's popular at the moment?

ps: your artwork is really nice, i love the shading especially!

here's an example i had saved for another thread, showing the slow growth of my own channel, each red line is an upload. If you can keep improving and keep at it, the growth will come :) some people get it straight away, some people like me had to improve over a long time (years) before growth really started.

Hello Zara! :) I'm glad you love drawing as well :) I'm Ian a Fine arts student from the Philippines :)

With your questions hmm well you'll get noticed if you post frequently :) like everyday :) and also if you do things that aren't quite normal

I've only seen any real increase in views after 8 months and around 45 videos in. (Not crazy a lot, but definitely a significant change) But then it stays that way.

I mean, imagine a straight horizontal line then it goes vertical then horizontal again. Something like it starts with +ve low gradient to sudden high +ve gradient then a low -ve gradient. <-I'm trying to paint a picture with words unsuccessfully. X3

On my first channel, which I started when I was about 13, didn't recieve views until I posted a DIY-esque video. On this channel, I posted reviews, tutorials,Let's Plays, etc. Basically anything I wanted and people who were interested in any of those topics would see the channel and at least watch the whole video.

The subscribers started rolling in after I posted my first IMVU video. These things all really depend on when you post, your utilization of the tags, description, title, and thumbnail, and the pacing of the video.

For example, if you clutter the title with too many words, the viewer may not get the concept of the video. You have to keep them concise.

You also have to tag videos appropriately. Make sure you are using relevant tags. You may get views if you load up on tags, but no subscribers because you may be misleading some prospective viewers.

With the thumbnails, you just have to practice. It's kind of like drawing. You get the hang of it with time, patience, and practice.

To possibly increase traffic, I would suggest uploading around 3:00 PM on weekdays during the school year because that is when most kids get out of school. You could also try uploading on weekends. My last suggestion would be to upload on one day a week (ie. Uploading on Wednesdays only).

Finally, the pacing of the video. I have found that my subscribers only watch about half of my videos. You have to mix up the video, make it interesting. Another thing you could try is simply make your videos shorter.

I hope most of this isn't repeating what is above, Good Luck!
