What Happens When You Don't Upload Videos Regularly?

I'd have to say I noticed little difference when I took a break. It probably depends on your channel though. My channel focuses on programming tutorials, so people probably didn't notice the absence. I'd also add my views are 90% new, 10% subscribers.

Wow your stats look very consistent even with your break. So it looks like it can be because of your niche like you said. It might also not be so competitive and saturated.

Youtube is full time, 7 day per week gig, if you want to be successful.
Anything less than that, and you can't compete with those who can work 24/7.
The sad reality of the modern world...

I agree, you cant become lazy to become successful, Take hard work and dedication. There are lots of hungry people and channels that spring up that can fill your spot if you slack ;)

That depends on your channel, and by 7 days per week do you mean a video every day for 7 days a week? Not really the case. Doing 2 - 3 videos per week is one of the best schedules imo especially for those that aren't that big.

Hi all,

From your personal experience what happens to your channel when you don't upload new videos for say a week / 2 weeks / a month. After you do this, does the channel stagnate or decline?

Would you say 1 or 2 uploads minimum a week will keep your channel growth healthy?

Thanks

Hey mate!

I haven't uploaded for 3 weeks due to having a cold and I lost couple subs. I should of done a video to let them know I was ill but next time I will.

If you upload regularly your channel will gain more attention and subs so it's good to upload more often.

As a gaming channel...It suffered real bad when i wasn't able to upload for a week or two, Views dropped and subs trickled off lower and lower. It sure took a while to build back up!

A small channel can always get a couple of hundred views a day, even if they stop for many weeks then restart, they can still squeeze a few hundred out or get back to that level quickly. Views at low sub levels are driven by subs and s4s loops, and not so much, if any, by algorithmic promotion across the platform.
I'm referring to high view channels, say 500k-1M+ views/day consistently over weeks and months. Those are actively promoted by the algorithm across the platform. If there is any detection that the upload schedule is slipping, the channel gets progressively deranked and views deleveled. It will stabilize, but at much lower levels.
Do a detailed study via Channelytics and Socialbrade of high sub/high view channels that have absences of several weeks+. The way the algo works is very clear.

this depends on the niché and on the channel itself, some channels are actually built up on having a very inconsistent upload schedule (eg. ColossalisCrazy), but if your content isn't that much original and your niché is very saturated (maybe oversaturated), people will forget about you and find someone else

There would & could be some exceptions to the rule. But those would be very specific and uncommon.

Based on discussions with our Youtube brand manager, she mentioned, and emphasized, on several occasions that a consistent and regular upload schedule is one of the critical success factors. Both for viewers, and for the backend system.

Like I said, you'll find odd exceptions in every case. But I prefer to go along with what a Youtube employee said, especially one whose job it is to help channels grow.
