There is! Final Cut 7 is what is used by a lot of low budget filmmakers, people who used to edit films on FCP think FCPX is absolute garbage (not all, but most).

You know big companies like BBC and CNN still use FCP7 as their main editing package? It was the industries standard piece of software of years until Premiere Pro CS6/CC came out. Companies are only just starting to move over now.

Never seen any big company that uses it. It is a staple of low budget though, the high end chaps use Avid and Premiere (even if Avid is becoming less popular)

Can you elaborate on what you mean by preimere having more "power". Like I can't think of anything I'd want to do in final cut that I couldn't, what am I missing?

Premiere integrates perfectly with all adobe software, the customisable layouts, massive amount of plugins, effects etc make it really powerful. It's a bit hard to say why to be honest. FCPX is just a lot more basic.

As soon as you said "plugins" I understood. I used to record music on a program called Studio One, and while it has all these capabilities and is powerful enough, it didn't allow 3rd party programs which left me unable to integrate all this cool outside stuff like extra instruments and such, so I switched this program called Reaper and it is compatible with absolutely anything and my music making has skyrocketed in what I'm able to do since. So yeah that makes alot of sense to me.

Could just be a lot of UK based companies that use it. But when I wen't to CNN which is a global news company a few months ago they where building 5 new editing suites just to run Final Cut Pro 7.

Oh and films like 300, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, The Social Network and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo where all edited using Final Cut Pro Although I'm pretty sure 300 was edited using an older version not Pro 7.

Only a year or so after FCP7 was released did it start to become popular around the smaller film makers/Youtuber society because people found ways to get this software cheaply using student/university discounts or illegal ways.

Also, if you owned a legitimate version of FCP7 you got 50% off Premiere Pro CS6 when it was released.

They might love it, doesn't exactly make it good. Lots of companies still use Internet Explorer. It's also not even taught in film courses any more (maybe only a bit at college, but that's it)

Heh I absolutely hate FCP7 so I'd most probably prefer to use Movie Maker...my uni is Avid/Premiere (mostly avid though)
