What are your planning processes?

I was wondering how others go about creating their video ideas, and whether you form basic ideas and improvise when filming or whether you go as far as to consider script, composure of the image ect..

This really interests me as i'm the type of person to make a brain storm, a basic list of points to mention and then a improvise when filming, my actual composure of images and 'crafting' of the video comes in the editing stage for me! I think that's one of the reasons why I enjoy the end product so much because its just as much a surprise for me as it is for my viewers haha.

But yes! Let me know what you do pre and post filming and even how far you go with video editing? As much detail as you like.. I'm just incredibly interested :) Thanks!! :up2::giggle::p

Most of my videos are un-planned (random dog videos, random weird stuff I see, unexpected stuff), and those tend to get a decent amount of views. Everything that has been on TV or considered for TV had minimal to no planning. The most recent one that caught a producer's eye had minimal planning (I planned on putting an ice cube on the floor and watching my dog chase it). Now my timelapse videos take some more planning as I need to find a spot I want to capture for multiple hours, so clouds, amazing sunsets, or something else that takes long. Also, a lot of my GoPro videos I kind of choreograph and find the best angles. For instance, the slow motion belly flops, I had to convince my friends to do it, how to do it, when to do it, and I caught the angles. I also had them capture the awesome angles of me doing stupid s**t. Also, anything with a tripod requires strategic angling and mounting.

Now as far as post editing, I normally at least adjust the color and brightness now. I also add transition effects, other trippy effects, and time effects to a lot of videos. I'm still trying to get creative, but have no time.

Ahh that sounds cool, i wish i could just do un-planned videos! How is it doing time-lapse videos? They sound incredible i'll definitely take a look :)

Just about all my videos are just out of my mind...a quick brainstorm, and boom. If I were doing a big project I would write down nessecary things :D

Well, a big project for me while still amateur would be perhaps a prank video or a video with roleplay involved :) And I would love to do a public prank soon!
I think a public prank would be so much fun to do! Especially if completely original and new!! I'm sure it would be great and funny! Goodluck with it if you do plan to do it ^^

You know those graphic organizers back in school? Yeah, those things. I use them a lot, to plan out videos. Especially key points I want to focus on.
